So Rajan has quit the Herald, after unethically misusing its editorial columns to drum up *Cristao* support for his planned venture, the Independent Goan Observer (IGO).
His Oct. 12 *Stray Thoughts* and other articles at the website www.rajannarayan,com say it loud and clear: that he will launch the IGO solely on the backing (both financial and in readership) of the minority *Cristao* community, after having stoked its fears (though virulent, even dangerous, anti-Hindutva/pro-Church writings during his last days in the Herald) that secularism in Goa is in danger at the hands of the BJP government. For one such rabid editorial alone, that had the potential to stir communal disharmony in this peaceful land, he ought to have been put behind bars (not the *Pio Bar* type he mentions, in a disparaging remark against the family members of his former employer - who picked this nondescript man from an Advertising/Public Relations firm in Mumbai and gave him a platform that made him St. Rajan Narayan, the second Patron Saint of Goa.) Crafty that he is, Rajan must have expected some such action, but it was just as well that the government chose to ignore that editorial: else it would have meant instant success for the persecuted martyr's IGO! Having very well understood the Goan mindset, especially of its minority *Cristao* section, the wily manipulator now thinks that the majority of Goan Cristaos are gullible enough to take in his *secularism*-spiced manipulation. He writes: *... Pleas that by quitting the Herald, I would be betraying the cause of secularism. That I would be compromising the interests of the minorities. That the only Opposition to the saffron fascist government of Manohar Parrikar would disappear.* He further writes: *I am distraught with worry. About whether the Herald will maintain the tradition of uncompromising independence and unwavering commitment to secularism.* A bare reading of his Oct.12 Stray Thoughts makes it amply clear that this wily manipulator heavily banks not just on *Cristao* Goans in general for readership support, but on CRISTAO GOAN N.R.I.s in particular - for reasons not difficult to guess. He writes, *It is my dream that the publicly owned, professionally managed media organization, will keep the saffron hordes at bay. Address the fears and apprehensions and the grievances of Goans on Goa, Goans in the rest of the country and Goans worldwide. It is my dream that this media organization will fulfill all the hopes and the aspirations of Goans worldwide including Goa.* He has, with usual audacity, already declared that he is *a non-Goan who has been more Goan than the Goenkars* So Goans, particularly the *Cristao* and NRI variety, beware!
