Think peace at Think Geek event on Oct 16 Gather your family and friends, bring a mat or blanket or sheet to sit on, bring some food and share it with everyone else because it's that time of year again. October 10, 2002, is the day forces of violence and terror took the life of a young journalist who was only trying to do his job. Journalist Ethel da Costa of Think Geek in collaboration with the Daniel Pearl Foundation, USA, will celebrate the death anniversary of Daniel Pearl who was kidnapped and murdered by militants in Pakistan while sourcing a story, as a day for celebrating the pursuit of peace with her annual Daniel Pearl Peace Concert. The peace concert is scheduled on October 16, at Jogger's Park, Altinho, Panjim beginning 6.00pm onwards to 10.00pm. Goa joins the rest of the world on this day in the third annual Daniel Pearl Music Day where almost 300 concerts in over 30 countries are dedicated to `Harmony for Humanity' this month. Last year, the Daniel Pearl Peace Concert rolled at the Panjim Municipal Garden with Mario Miranda, Wendell Rodricks, Remo Fernandes and Margaret Mascarenhas heralding the message of peace and community harmony, while 500 school children espoused community togetherness in drawings and peace messages. The one condition that the Daniel Pearl Foundation stipulates is the event be a non-profit one. To this end, Ethel Da Costa has brought in musicians, bands, sound and light technicians from within Goa who will perform free of charge to make music for all ages. Making music at the peace concert will be fusion and acoustic bands `Sunset Boulevard,' `Status Quo' and `Hammerhead.' Interested musicians are also invited to jam up at the event. Pearl the journalist, was also a violinist, fiddler and mandolin player. He joined a band, orchestra or chamber group in every town in which he lived and formed connections through his passion for music and friendship. Shortly after his death, Daniel's family, friends and supporters formed the Daniel Pearl Foundation to further the ideals that inspired his life and work, and to spotlight his love for music to build bridges and create friendships. The peace concert is meant to bring the community together in harmony for an evening of great music and togetherness. Goa has answered that call. Everyone is invited. ====== ----- End forwarded message -----
