(H) GOVT LIKELY TO REVITALISE ANCIENT CISTERN: A preliminary report on a proposal for restoration and revitalization of an ancient cistern at Altinho has been recently submitted to the Corporation of the City of Panaji. The proposal aims to reconstruct the water tank near the Lyceum Complex, Altinho, for the collection and storage of rainwater, which can be utilised for the benefit of the residents. The cistern dates back to early 20th century, when the then Portuguese administration undertook a series of water supply works for the city of Panaji in its early stage of development, says Mr Percival Noronha, a local historian. (NT) YOUTH DIES IN ROAD MISHAP: In a fatal accident reported on December 5 near St Jacinto Island, Vasco, a two-wheeler rider, Yeshwant Shirodkar of Tiswadi, died on the spot when his motorcycle was hit by an oncoming minibus. (NT) ONE JAILED: A Fast Track Court in Margao has sentenced, on December 5, one Madhavi Jadav from Vasco to three months' simple imprisonment under the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act. The woman was arrested by the Vasco police on an allegation of using a girl for the purpose of prostitution. The beautiful life-size statue of Our Lady in front of the Mae de Deus Chapel was blessed on 8 December, 1943.
