Indeed yes, thinks the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Parrikar. Expressing concern over the rise in suicide cases in the State, the Chief Minister said, "Something has to be done at least to reduce it (the suicide rate)." Children in the age group of 12-18 are highly influenced by the television serials which, according to him, show only fantasies. The Chief Minister was replying to a question-answer phone-in live programme on Goa Doordarshan on Nov 24 evening. On suicides, he admitted that it's also the government's responsibility to create a conducive socio-economic and emotional environment in the State. (H)
SHOW CAUSE TO LOUTULIM BP UNIT: South Goa Collector JB Singh has issued a show cause notice under Section 142 of the CrPC for closure of the Bharat Petroleum unit located in the vicinity of Pesanvbhat, Loutulim. He has also directed that the authorities to clear the stagnant water accumulated in the spring. It may be recalled that the villagers of Loutulim had complained about pollution by petrol of the spring. The locals contend that they move out along with their families on holidays. As heavy traffic plies on the route, their lives are put to a considerable risk and inconvenience. They have also called upon the concerned authorities to put an end to the washing of trucks in the rivulets.
