LAND TO BE DIGITALLY MAPPED: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar yesterday (Nov
26) stated that land in the State would be digitally mapped in the resurvey
operations launched yesterday. He reiterated that there would be no change
in From 1 and XIV records. He was speaking after inaugurating the resurvey
project at an impressive function held at Miramar circle. He said the
resurvey would also map underground cables, water lines besides physical
mapping of the constructions. (GT)

NO REGULARISATION OF ILLEGAL STRUCTURES: The Chief Minister, Mr Manohar
Parrikar, said that the land re-survey project is an endeavour towards
obtaining photo-image of Goa in a digital form and in no way would be
instrumental in conferring any kind of rights on the structures observed

HAZARDOUS UNITS MUST DISPLAY UPDATED INFO: The Supreme Court of India has
directed the State Pollution Control Boards, including that of Goa, to
ensure that all industries generating hazardous wastes display on-line data
outside the main factory gate, about the chemicals used and the emissions
generated within the factory premises. (H)

19-YEAR-OLD BOY CRUSHED TO DEATH: In a fatal accident at Ribandar on
November 26 at 6 am, 19-year-old Clint D'Souza, who was on his way home, was
run over by a speeding Mumbai-bound truck on the Ribandar causeway. (GT)

PANCH'S SON BOOKED: Bicholim police on Tuesday registered a complaint
against the son of Sanquelim panch, for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl
from Arvalem-Sanquelim. The incident occurred on November 17. (H)

GOA'S COMMON CIVIL CODE FOR DELHI? Shiv Sena, a key NDA allay, yesterday
released its manifesto for Delhi assembly elections promising, among other
things, to get rid the capital of illegal Bangladeshi migrants and
introduction of a Common Civil Code for all Delhiites on the pattern of Goa
besides imposition of a blanket ban on cow slaughter. (PTI report)

as members of the Muslim community thronged the place on the occasion of Id.

BAD ROAD TO OLD GOA: Floriano Fernandes, convenor of the Merces Civic
Consumer Forum, has said that devotees attending St Francis Xavier's novena
masses at Old Goa and using the Merces-Vaddy-Ribandar road are in deep
trouble as the stretch of the road is not motorable with innumerable

INSURANCE SCHEME FOR FISHERMEN: A Goa government-sponsored insurance scheme
for fishermen will be launched in January 2004. The scheme offers insurance
over of Rs.20,000 to fishermen, in the event of a natural or accidental
death. Under this scheme, the government will contribute Rs.100 per head
with no onus on the beneficiary as it is a wholly government-sponsored
scheme. The Department of Fisheries has confirmed 3000 names of fishermen,
but more will be added to the list as the census get ready. (H)

HOARDINGS TO BE REMOVED: The Goa government will soon take a decision to
remove all roadside hoardings, according to North Goa Collector SS
Keshkamat. He was of the opinion that nearly 1000 hoardings were put up at
various places in both the districts. The hoardings should be put 75 metres
away from both sides of the highways, in addition to regular guidelines, he

PRODUCTIVITY IN PADDY: While a good rainfall this year, spread well over
time and space, is expected to raise Goa's paddy and overall foodgrain
production by 6 to 10 per cent, the initiatives of the state Directorate of
Agriculture encouraging use of hybrid paddy seeds are also expected to boost
paddy production in the future. The total food grain (rice, ragi and
pulses). Goa's productivity of 2.7 tonne per hectare was higher than the

LIE DETECTOR TEST: Investigators seeking to solve the mystery behind the
July 2002 murder of Tanuja Naik at Madkai have hit yet another dead end.
Reliable sources informed GT that the lie-detector tests performed on
brothers, Glen and Caitano Aguiar, have shown negative results. The duo were
taken to Hyderabad to undergo the lie-detector tests. (GT)

RAPE VICTIM DREADS SCHOOL: Three months after the brutal rape (on 6 August),
an eight-year-old girl still hallucinates. She wants her parents around her
all the time and school is a place to fear. She has lost interest in studies
and sometimes cries in her sleep. (GT)

BOOK ON RIVER SARASWATI: Six volumes of the book "River Saraswati", written
by Dr Kalyanaraman, comprising research work on lost river Saraswati, will
be released at the hands of the Union Minister of State for Finance, at the
Gomantak Maratha Samaj Hall, Panaji, on November 27 at 6 pm. (NT)

MANDO GETS FULL HOUSE: It seemed like a change for the better, when a
near-houseful audience flocked to the Kala Academy on November 26 for the
37th Mando Festival, organised by the Goa Cultural and Social Centre, after
years of lean crowds and declining interest in this form of traditional
Konkani song. Participants were seen decked in their traditional finery,
some carrying the traditional Goan drum "ghumott", large artistic fans,
top-hats and Western suits for men and traditional Goan attire for women.

will launch an educative campaign on suicide. First in the series, is an

NATIONAL MEET ON SPICES: A three-day national seminar on "New Perspectives
in Spices, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants" will be held at the Indian Council
for Agriculture Research Complex at Old Goa from November 27. As many as 60
varieties out of 103 spice crops have now been cultivated (in India),
accounting for 50 per cent by volume and 25 per cent by value out of the 4.5
million tones of global production of spices valued at 1,500 million doors.

in the open invitation swimming meet in Belgaum on 22 and 23 November, have
returned with a total of 15 gold, 11 silver and 5 bronze medals. Annie Jose
