If the culprits in these cases continue with their heinous crimes they should
be excommunicated.

However, if their guilt is in the past, then punish them by all means, in the
courts of the land. But they cannot be excommunicated.

However unpalatable the fact, the mercy of GOD is reserved; in these cases
unfortunately I feel, for even the worst of sinners.

That is of course, if they have repented and expressed remorse.

I have two reactions to this post:

1. I have no idea why you are hiding behind an alias, or are being permitted to
do so by Goanet administration.

2. Unlike some others who posted comments under the threads "[Goanet] Goan
Catholics be warned", and "[Goanet] Should these guys receive communion?"
falsely claiming a double standard in how Bishop Tobin handled the case of Sen.
Patrick Kennedy and citing inappropriate comparisons of abortion with just wars
or judicial capital punishment, you seem to understand one of the basic
fundamentals of the Catholic faith - the difference between ongoing, deliberate
and defiant actions that violate major Church precepts and those who have shown
remorse and repentance and are not deliberately continuing their transgressions.
