“A DIFFERENT STORY - The Dischordian live in concert”

To match its successful venture of promoting the membership drive as a
means to preserve the past for posterity, Goa Chitra presents another
unique event called “A DIFFERENT STORY – The Dischordian live in
concert”, a treat for music lovers across Goa and a special offer for
its members. The Dischordians are not an everyday performance but ones
that have recently taken India by storm and been nominated for the
Indiecision ‘09 award for recognition of work by artist involved with
the creation and promotion of music.
Dischordian began as an attempt to move away from the wall of sound and
aggression and testosterone that makes up most rock music. It’s new and
different – they keep the intensity and depth of feeling that is so
important for any art to work, but strip the music down to its basics:
one guitar and one voice, just rhythms and melodies and words.
Dischordian is today a three-piece acoustic band with Garreth D’Mello
–on vocals, guitar, and harmonica, Agnelo Picaardo on trumpet, maracas,
and djembe and Nigel Rajaratnam on Piano, Saxophone, Guitar , Melodica.
Garreth D’Mello on vocals, guitar, and harmonica: Garreth has been the
lead singer with ‘Split’, one of the country’s most popular and exciting
alternative/post-grunge rock bands in the last decade. Split has played
gigs all over the country as well as at festivals like Independence
Rock, Great Indian Rock, and the Eastwind Festival. Garreth is one of
the key songwriters in Split, and has done short stints with other
bands, including ‘Forcefield’, ‘Mr John's Banned’, and ‘Zero’. Garreth
writes, composes, and arranges all of Dischordian’s music.
Agnelo Picaardo on trumpet, maracas, and djembe: Agnelo started out as a
trumpet player, playing with the Bombay Chamber Orchestra at the age of
12. In recent years, he has emerged as one of the most talented drummers
around, playing with a variety of pop, rock, and jazz artists, including
Aqua Flow, Abbey, Neha Bhasin, Pralay, and currently Depth.
Nigel Rajaratnam -on Piano, Saxophone, Guitar , Melodica : The youngest
member of Dischordian - Nigel plays key board and Saxophone. An upcoming
session’s musician, he is the founder of an Indian folk rock band called
Pradakshinam (they recently won the Indian Rock Band competition at IIT
Mood Indigo.) as well as, a core member of a number of music projects
that vary in influcences from modern Jazz to Acoustic folk music.
Their music incorporates all the sounds you have loved and learned since
childhood, including country, pop, rock ‘n’ roll, punk, metal, folk, and
a multitude of styles that have no real labels. In the 12 months since
the band was formed, they have played at practically every major venue
in Bombay( Kala Ghoda Festival ‘08, Trattoria, Taj President, Bandra
Festival '09, Firangi Paani on Christmas Eve ’09, Blue Frog , and Café
Goa). Dischordian has just finished its as yet untitled debut album
which should be released by the summer of 2010.
The Dischordian shall perform on the 10th of April at the Goa Chitra’s
amphitheatre from 8:00 p.m to 10:00 p.m sharp. To experience an out of
