BJP won’t form govt if it fails to get majority, says Parrikar
NT Staff Reporter

Panaji, June 1 The leader of the Opposition, Mr Manohar Parrikar today said
that even if the
Bharatiya Janata Party emerged the single largest party, he would not attempt
to form the
government unless his party got a clear majority. Mr Parrikar also reiterated
that he was
absolutely confident of the BJP getting a clear majority on it own.
Mr Parrikar told a press conference that except for two persons – Ms Nirmala
Sawant
(Cumbharjua) and Mr Mathany Saldanha (Cortalim) – he would not take the help of
any other
person or party to form the government.
The BJP leader said that aligning with Mr Saldanha did not mean the BJP was
aligning with his
party, the United Goans Democratic Party. He clarified that under no condition
would he take
the help of other parties or MLAs to form the government, save for Ms Sawant
and Mr Saldanha.
“If I have to do something in Goa, it is not possible to do it by aligning with
scoundrels.
They will blackmail you after a year or so,” the former chief minister said.
He expressed satisfaction with the response the BJP had received from the
people during
campaigning. He assured that once elected to power, the BJP government will be
of each and
every Goan, including those who have not voted for the BJP. Mr Parrikar said he
has never
differentiated between those who voted for him and those who have not.
The Opposition leader has requested the Election Commission to put paramilitary
forces on the
borders to curb the inflow of money into Goa and its distribution in the remote
villages of
Goa. He alleged that rampant distribution of money was going on in
constituencies like
Taleigao, Shiroda, Mormugao and Valpoi and demanded that the Election
Commission should clamp
down on the money flow. ``The BJP would also form flying squads to help prevent
the flow of
money in constituencies,’’ he said.
The BJP state president, Mr Shripad Naik, who spoke earlier, sharply criticised
the
advertisement campaign launched against the BJP by the Lok Shakti. Describing
the
advertisements as extremely negative, he said the Lok Shakti chief, Mr Datta
Naik had stooped
to such low level that even political parties would not stoop.
Mr Shripad Naik said the advertisements would not succeed in confusing the BJP
workers or in
putting a split in their ranks. Also speaking on the issue, Mr Parrikar said
the malicious
campaign would be dealt through the Press Council of India and through legal
means.

JoeAdds:
So there is no question of taking support from Churchill or UGDP or others.
But if won by 19 seats, it may still take support of Nirmala and Mathany (if
they both wins
too).
But again, Mathany may face disciplenary action from the UGDP.
