-- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM: Revolts have hit Congress. The first has come from Bicholim where Naresh Sawal and the entire party block committee quit on Sunday. On Saturday, Congress had announced that former BJP MLA Rajesh Patnekar, who joined the party recently, would be the Congress candidate from Bicholim.
"All the members of the block committee have resigned as they felt Congress is not valuing their loyalty," Sawal told media persons. About 30 of his supporters were present when he announced the resignation. These included block president Vighnesh Gaonkar, women's front president Vidhya Parab, and office bearers Kundan Fogeri, Audhoot Parab and others. Sawal said that allotting the ticket to another candidate is an injustice to him. He admitted that BJP leaders have been in contact with him. "We will take a final decision after a couple of days on this," he said. Congress campaign manager Mauvin Godinho termed the block committee's resignation as unfortunate. "This action should not come as a surprise as these developments do come about in political parties," he said. Congress will cope with the development but it will not affect the party candidate's prospects, Godinho asserted. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
