Church-going Catholics in North America are now fatigued with hearing constant and never-ending stories of abuses followed by cover-ups by Church officials and are reflecting their disgust with stopping their regular donations and in worse cases stopping their regular church attendance leading to ultimately relinquishing their faith.
Toronto Churches are increasingly seeing their parishes staffed with priests from Asia and Africa where vocations are seeming strong. Church attendance is still high but with a 80/20 new-immigrant to third generation and older resident ratio which does not reflect the city’s demographic which is 55/45 for those populations. Pope Francis is not moving firmly enough (perhaps the Vatican Bureaucracy is an obstacle) to lay down punitive measures for those proven to have offended.
