* Colours of life* ,an exhibition of paintings by Dr. Vijay Sahgal will be displayed at Gallery Gitanjali from the 19th to the 21st of December,2013. *The exhibition will be opened on 19th December 2013 at 6.30pm by Sir Mark Tully, **the **former Bureau Chief of BBC, New Delhi.*
A retired orthopedic surgeon, as a young child Dr Vijay Sahgal spent most of his time either sketching or drawing or playing with colors. At the age of fourteen he found a mentor - his art teacher Mr. Rathin Mitra at the Doon School, Dehra Dun. The first painting “Lull before the Storm” earned him a gold medal at the national level followed by another gold for his next creation. A brilliant surgeon who specializes in joint replacements, Dr. Vijay Sahgal is a man of many scalpels with an eye for details which translate into Abstract forms, textures and glimpses from everyday life . Irresistibly drawn to the act of creation he has nurtured the artist within him to flourish and flower alongside his busy and illustrious medical career. Presently settled in the colorful village of Pilerne in Goa, Dr. Sahgal’s paintings are in symphony with his surroundings in terms of color and depth. Largely self taught Dr. Sahgal has been influenced by artists around the world from Monet to Van Gogh to M F Hussain in terms of style in knife and palette. He has exhibited in group & solo exhibitions in Chandigarh and the UK.
