All Parties, Confident Of Winning An Absolute Majority
Honour among crooks wilts, as trust withers among thieves, comes to mind as Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Subhash Shirodkar and the other parties claim that they’ll be better off going into the next Assembly elections on their own without any alliances and are confident enough of bagging an absolute majority. Is this arrogance or complacency ? Thieves and crooks are always on a lookout for alliances for a major heist, even though they may be intrinsically incompatible. Suspicion and mistrust will always be an embodiment, but for the swag, compromises are made as terms and conditions are discussed and accepted. Since, 1961 political parties, one after the other, term after term, have been pulling up heists in Goa, with increased frequency, brutality and magnanimity, which is extremely disquieting to note. It is indeed surprising how a small place like Goa, survives from a band of forty masquerading, marauding mercenaries on the prowl, initially they were thirty one but it was all the more baffling when nine more renegades joined in, as Goa was declared a state, the more the merrier was the cliché, are we better off or worse ? It’s amply obvious ! Isn’t it ? The BJP and it’s saffron brigade are in a dilemma as their communal and Hindutva policies have backfired, they do need to change their outlook for the remainder of this term and be the opposition that needs to be, if not, it would be the end for the saffron brigade in Goa, and Manohar Parrikar’s dream of becoming the next CM will only remain a dream. The Congress, after claiming success at the Pale, Valpoi, municipality and Zilla elections have become more arrogant than ever before, they think they are become invincible, even though they are very well aware of the unfulfilled promises, the height of corruption, the day to day living has never been more expensive and shattering the lives of the poor and the ever increasing clamor over mega projects and mining. Even then, if at all they are confident, it’s only because of the ennui of the Goan voter. The NCP has never been a force to reckon in Goa, not much teeth either, except for the flamboyance of Mickey getting publicity for all the wrong reasons. This party too has failed in it’s pre election promises of supporting the agenda of constructive development of Goa. Even after being obvious to nonperformance, they too are confident of winning an absolute majority, fact or fiction ? Only time will tell. The MGP is the remnant of the Bandodkar legacy, with probably only dentures on it’s gums, as it lost it’s teeth ages ago, since then they have been changing beds and partners on a regular basis, surviving only on the popularity of yester years, with nothing to claim for and nothing to loose either. In this panoramic spectrum what’s on offer, is pathetic, if not altogether incongruous. Certainly, while holding public office, individuals and parties should have probity and a certain amount of decorum, which is absolutely lacking in the above circus tents and their clowns. It only goes to tells us that the political discourse in Goa continues to be focused on money and power, rather than on principles and good governance. Do we even realize that coddled parties and their treacherous candidates, just cannot gives us good governance, free of corruption ? The Political parties and their politicians, over the years through the arithmetic of carefully calibrated and attuned moves, have been slowly but surely destroying Goa and our Goan identity. Given their insatiable appetite for money and power, due diligence has been reduced to a measly joke, creating countervailing consequences for Goa and Goans. We Goans are quick to pronounce guilt by association but are remarkably tardy in bringing about a change in any real sense, as such we are an incoherent lot, frequently triggering avalanches of muckraking, which provides no immunity against our primordial infections and given the current realities, it is imperative that we focus on our goals and objectives. I am sure we Goans would love to live in a Goa inhabited by rational people with rational ideas, if so we have to get back to the drawing board to demystify our inadequacies, sort out our differences and our inanities and try to respond tangibly to the need of the hour, which is to protect and preserve our cohesive and equitable Goan identity. For this we have to convert our seething anger, into a fierce and unequivocal potent strike. We have to get rid of this opaque system that shelter’s crime and criminals and opt for a system that’s transparent, in cognizance with the ground realities that are ideal for Goa and Goans, not that such a system is not available, we just have to look in the right direction, even with this system, to achieve success, unity is a must. If we are united and sincere in our resolve, honour among crooks will certainly wilt and trust among thieves will indubitably wither away and Goa will be an inhabitance of rational people. Freddy Agnelo Fernandes Subhash confidant of Cong winning 25 seats alone HERALD CORRESPONDENT Subhash confidant of Cong winning 25 seats alone HERALD CORRESPONDENT OLD GOA, DEC 13 Hitting out at the MGP and NCP, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Subhash Shirodkar on Sunday said the Congress could easily win at least 25 seats in the next assembly polls without joining hands with other political parties. Shirodkar was reacting to a statement by newly-elected MGP President Deepak Dhavlikar on a local TV channel that the MGP — a coalition partner in the Congress-led government — would start its campaign in around 10 constituencies by January 15 to gear up for the next assembly polls. Incidentally, the NCP, the other coalition partner, had also indicated its wish to fight the next assembly elections in all the 40 constituencies on its own. “I welcome the decision made by the MGP President as elections are to take place in May 2012. I think all parties would go on saying that they would contest all 40 seats, but only time would tell as to what are the capabilities of every party and seats they could contest and win,” Shirodkar told Herald. “If the MGP wants to go independently, it is fine. But that intention should remain even after the elections. They should not then come and say that they would like to have an alliance with our party,” said Shirodkar. “Our party is ready to take on any party by all means, whether it is the MGP, NCP, BJP or some other local party.” “Even the NCP has been making a similar statement, despite being in coalition with the Congress in the State,” the GPCC president added. When asked if the Congress was confident of winning the next assembly elections on its own, Shirodkar said: “We are so strong that we expect to win at least 25 seats in the next elections. Hence, the Congress will not get jitters with such statements made by these people.” “Ever since I have taken over as party president, I feel that the Congress should go all alone in the next assembly elections,” he said. He predicted that the Congress would return to power in the next assembly polls. “The Congress has the mandate of the people. In the recent elections, the Congress won in Pale and Valpoi constituencies, besides supporting the winning candidates in the Zilla Panchayat and municipal polls,” he said. ________________________________ The content of this electronic communication is intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom it is addressed and any others who are specifically authorized to receive it.
