Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar should not attempt to procrastinate and
dodge, more so on serious issues concerning Goa. He has to perform or
perish. His despicable and deceitful statement that he has just come to
know about the availability of drugs and prostitution in Calangute is
outrageous to say the least. He has been the Chief Minister holding the
Home portfolio for the last over 100 days. Also a Minister for last three
years and an MLA since 2002. Does Laxmikant Parsekar think he can continue
to fool us like Manohar Parrikar did? This reminds us of Manohar Parrikar’s
vile claim during his first tenure as Chief Minister that he came to know
that matka gambling was thriving only when he stopped for a fresh lime in a
kiosk at the Ponda bus stand.

If Laxmikant Parsekar wants any further evidence that Goa is already a
drug, prostitution, and gambling haven he should sleep through the day and
instead roam around through the night to see how pathetic Goa’s coastal
belt has become due to the sheer collusion and connivance of the
authorities with all the illegalities. Calangute once the queen of beaches
has now become extremely insecure for even the local people to move around
after sunset as all the lanes and by lanes are infested with hoards of
pimps.

This malaise which has been bravely and courageously highlighted by MLA
Michael Lobo is not limited only to Calangute but has gripped the entire
coastal belt which stretches from Terekhol in Chief Minister’s very own
constituency to Polem in Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar’s kingdom. But
both seem to be making hay while Goa sinks with the ever so moolah greedy
Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar leading the last rites of the only
backbone of our economy.

Deafening is the silence of the RSS and the BJP Mahila Morcha who otherwise
always raised a hue and cry over drugs, prostitution, and gambling. A
political compromise is it?
