GSRP to raise Reservation for Transgenders/Eunuchs/Transexual in its LS 2014
Manifesto

Believing that all humans are equal in the eyes of the creator and the precepts
of the Party's constitution works towards endeavoring for the 'Neglected
Citizens', Goa Su-Raj Party (GSRP) will be raising the issue of reservation in
government jobs and subsidies for those Indian citizens who are
transgenders/transsexuals.
The party will also endeavor to work along with the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and
Transsexual (LGBT) community at state-level and Centre towards de-criminalising
the current decision taken by the Supreme Court which criminalises Gay Sex.

Speaking on the decision taken by GSRP, Savio Rodrigues, Secretary & President
(Youth Affairs), revealed, "Election Commission of India has opened the doors
for 'Others' referring to transgenders/transsexual to vote in the forthcoming
Lok Sabha elections. Therefore, as a political party contesting a National
election we must take a stand on this issue. And we have decided to demand for
reservations of government jobs for those transgenders/transsexuals or for the
government, both at State and Centre to provide for them subsidies to earn a
decent living rather than resort to begging or prostitutions."

Thousands from the LGBT community became open about their sexual identity
during the past four years after the high court decriminalised gay sex and they
are now facing the threat of being prosecuted on account of the Supreme Court
order criminalising LGBT sex. "There is an immense need to understand and
accept people for being humans and not categories them as criminals on account
of their sexual preferences. Laws need to be changed in Parliament to accept
the LGBT community as humans with same kind of rights and privileges of the
country.

Eunuchs across India even in Goa, resort to begging and prostitution both which
are unlawful according to the laws of the country. They, like every other
citizen of this country, have a right to proper education, means to earn a
legitimate living and to live life as a free citizen. This is what GSRP is
advocating, that it shall ensure that they get treated first like humans and
then citizens of this country. If today, government at State and Centre could
provide them with, for example, Phone Kiosks or Vegetable Stalls to earn a
livelihood, this would prevent them from begging or being drawn into
prostitution, expressed Rodrigues.
