"Goa: A Ghost Story" Directed by Tony Sonera and written by Renee Chinquapin. Opens at 8 p.m. Friday and continues at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Feb 16-Mar 3 at the Back Door Theater, 4321 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd.; $10, 503-284-6392 or http://www.tabukitheatre.org/play-Goa.htm Synopsis: "Goa: A Ghost Story" is a play about Jonni, a kindly and hard-working hostel owner in Goa, India, trying to come to terms with the bizarre outlooks and behavior of backpackers from the West staying in his hostel. The play deals with the clash between East and West, between the permissive, alienated, "me-me-me" lifestyle of Westerners, and the more family-oriented, traditional Indian outlook on life. Jonni may be forced to tolerate repugnant western ways in order to feed his family, but in the end it is his Indian wisdom that triumphs. For a photograph and review of the production see http://www.jewishreview.org/Archives/Article.php?Article=2007-02-15-3059 I asked Renee Chinqaupin if the script is available for purchase and received the full text as an attachment. I can forward it to any one interested - the file size is 150 KB. Renee writes: "Feel free to ask any questions you may have. I don't want any royalties for producing the play, just to be informed and sign a contract that no changes will be made without my permission." Eddie Fernandes http://www.goanvoice.org.uk/
