Goa RTI Forum to organize workshop for College Lecturers on ‘RTI in Curriculum’
With the objective of introducing College Teachers in Goa to the nuances of Right to Information (RTI) Act 2005 the Goa Right Forum is organizing a one day workshop on ‘RTI in Curriculum’ for College Lecturers at the Central Library Lecture Hall on 4th October 2014(9 am to 2 pm). The workshop is planned as a precursor to the proposed implementation of RTI module in the Second Year B.com Syllabus of Goa University to be effective from November 2014. In a first of its kind initiative in the country Goa University proposes to implement the Right to Information course in hands on manner. Students groups are expected to file RTI applications on issues of public importance and will be evaluated based on these practical experiences of theirs. Goa RTI forum has lauded this novel initiative of Goa University , “This course will help in making the students aware of the power of RTI as a tool to command their rights as citizens. More importantly, it will give them an insight into what would be their responsibilities and duties towards the public when they take up careers in public institutions,” said Goa RTI Forum Secretary Ganpat Kurtiker. The workshop participants will be guided by resource persons who have worked extensively in the realm of RTI in Goa as well as academicians. Advocate Aires Rodrigues, Kashinath Shetye , Prof Ketan Govekar, Sandeep Heble ,Adv Yatish Naik Adv Pundalik Raiker and Prof M. Shanti will take the participants through the details of the RTI Act 2005 and the manner in which it can be integrated in the academic context. The afternoon session(2pm to 4pm) is an open forum session open for public in general. RTI forum has appealed people to attend this open session in large numbers to discuss their queries and problems related to RTI. Goa RTI forum has been championing the cause of RTI in the state of Goa since inception and has taken up several issues related to Goa and Goans to their logical conclusion.
