Some chaps were quick to attack Gabriel on his statements about the treatment
meted out to bharats. In fact  bharat arrivals in Hong Kong are more than often
whisked away by immigration and detained for hours. These poor people are faced
with many racist acts. In the city some are spat at or people in public buses
may not sit next to you. These situations may stem from the bridish contempt
for bharat since the Quit Movement in 1942 incited by none other than the great
Mahatma Gandhi.

In Macau a small Goan population was always shoulder to shoulder with the
Portuguese.  We had juizos, doutors, jornalistas and professores. Therefore the
local chinese saw Goans at a different level.

The problem with bharats are that they will always hassle for prices. They are
called bhingtakars in Goa. Than they meddle with women although they are with
their wives, Therefore one is not surprised to read such statements made by
immigration at the Macau-China border.
