KGA Churchill Bros. lift Livrament Boys Benaulim Trophy


















Mirqab, Kuwait: A large number of football lovers witnessed the one day 
7-a-side football tournament organized by Livrament Boys Benaulim. After 
organizing three (3) tie-breakers tournament for the past three consecutive 
years, this was the first time they had a 7-a-side tournament which had 17 
teams participating which included DHL, Veterans, Rising Stars, CRC Chinchinim, 
Livrament Boys, Ilhas Boys, United Freinds Club, St. Francis Xavier (SFX), 
Curtorcares United, UB40 Colva, Duler Boys, Fahaheel Brothers, Indian Strikers, 
KGA Churchill Bros., and Canacona Boys. As the matches progress from 6:30 a.m. 
whistle onwards, the teams reaching quarter-final stages were KGA Churchill 
Bros v/s Veterans; and Canacona Boys v/s Duler Boys which were won by KGA and 
Duler Boys respectively. In the other Q/F matches SFX won against UB40 Colva 
and UFC continued their winning stretch against Ilhas Boys. 



The tournament was supervised by Referees which included Ian D'souza, Edwardo 
Dias, Tiago Fernandes, Rosario Colaco, Godfrey Aguiar, Nazareth Azavedo, 
Remedius Fernandes, James Goveia, Anthony Cardozo and Rasol Rodrigues, and 
photography by Zelito Cardozo and Dwane Almeida. In the semi-finals SFX won by 
a tie-breaker against UFC and KGA Churchill Bros. were no match to Duler Boys, 
who later took away the winners Trophy.





The chief guest was Denis D'Costa (Emirates Airlines) and Guest of honour 
Fidelis Fernandes, KIFF President. Ranifa Dias and Gulf-Goans e-Newsletter 
moderator Gaspar Almeida were the special invitees. The tournament proceedings 
were well conducted by the Livrament Boys Benaulim and the compere Manuel 
D'Costa kept the football lovers entertained with his witty commentary on the 
matches, teams and regular announcements. 



The chief guest in a short speech commended the organizers and the supporters 
and the participating teams for their high standard of football and discipline 
inspite of the high temperatures but enthusiastically showing their Eid festive 
holiday mood. This tournament was sponsored by Toyota - Al-Sayer, Mariano, 
Lawrence Pinto, Tome Gracias, V.K.Vohra, Valent, Kenedy Rebello, John Furtado, 
Peter (Goa Maroons), CRC Chinchinim, Fidelis Fernandes, Edward Dias, Darwin 
D'Cruz, Winners and Runners-up Trophies were donated by Rollo Dias (Siemens), 
Luis Cardozo, KGA, Micheal D'Silva (Benaulim), Pascoal Fernandes (Benaulim), 
Joe Pereira, Rafina Dias, Rasol Rodrigues, Lawrence Cardoso, Agnelo Borges, 
Cyril, Xavier, Tony Gracias, Jack Xavier, Seby, Salvador Dias (KGA President). 



The man of the match award was presented to Bernardo Pires (KGA Churchill 
Bros), Best Goal Keeper of the finals award went to Carlos Fernandes of SFX 
team, Best striker award was handed over to Noel of Veterans, Best midfielder 
award went to Edwin of UFC, Best goalkeeper of the tournament award was 
presented to Blesson D'Souza (KGA Churchill Bros), First scorer of the final 
award was taken away by Anil Thakuri (KGA Churchill Bros.) and the best 
disciplined team went to Duler Boys for the excellent sportsmanship. Mementos 
were presented to Avinash Rogtao and Manuel Pereira for all the support 
rendered. Connie Rodrigues and Micheal Mitchell efforts were highlighted and 
gratefully acknowledged in conducting the tournament successfully. The guest of 
honour, Fidelis Fernandes, praised the organizers for their fair organization 
of the tournament. Refreshments, softdrinks and water was provided to all 
spectators to quench the thirst on the hot windy day.
