BICHOLIM MAY 7 :In yet another attack, a leopard killed a calf at Maulinguem-Bicholim in the wee hours of Friday. According to sources, the calf belonging to one Ashok Sawaikar was tied in a cowshed, when it was attacked by the wild cat. “Usually, we put on all the light surrounding our house at night especially after the leopard killed our dog,” said Ashok's son, Mandar. “Last night, we forgot to put on the light in the cowshed and when we came in the morning, we found the calf dead.” Animal Rescue Squad chief Amrut Singh informed that the leopard generally goes in search of food in the evening or in the wee hours. “Merely putting on the lights may not drive the leopard away,” said Singh. It may be recalled that leopard attacks have been reported in the area in the past few days. “In three similar cases, calves belonging to Jitendra Sawaikar, Nigalye, Govekar and another person from Naiginim Bicholim were reportedly killed by the leopard.
