Let the legacy of Mathany live on With the untimely demise of our popular leader, MLA elect Mathany Saldanha, the Cortalim constituency has to go for a bye-election to elect its new MLA. Eulogies have still been pouring in for the late Mathany Saldanha for his outstanding contribution to the Goan causes. No doubt he led many a movements in his short span of life, some dreams fulfilled, some yet to be, but what matters most was his never say die attitude, he never gave up on the Goan causes and fought to the very end.
Goans everywhere have had great things to say about him but how many of us will truly follow his deeds and his principles in his absence ? He fought relentlessly no matter how big or who the opposition was, neither his priorities nor his values ever changed with seasons, he was firm on his agendas and he truly believed in his precepts. His untimely demise has now created a void or a vacuum in leadership that led a thousand movements. Can we afford to forget Mathany's legacy, specially now that we have got rid of the axis of evil and corruption ? No my dear Goans, today we need to remain united all the more to let the powers that be know that they have been elected or given the mandate not to do as they please but to do the will of those that elected them. No doubt some one will have to take the place which the great Mathany Sandanha vacated and who better than his wife Alina, who shared his life, his joys and his sorrows, his triumphs and his falls ? CM, Manohar Parrikar like any good chess played has moved his queen to a good position to check mate the moves of the combined opposition, there is little doubt that the bye-election at Cortalim will be emotionally charged as Alina will ride high on sympathy, but we Goans will have to do better and vote keeping aside our emotions and our sympathies, at the moment Goa and Goans will a be lot better off if we stop moving around with emotions hanging from our sleeves. Yes, Alina Sandanha will certainly be the ideal choice given her experience in the field of education management and her first hand experience with the great Mathany Saldanha as his wife, but we have to first make sure Alina knows the issues that were dear to Mathany Saldanha and her stand on those issues. Before we go gaga over Alina let her come out strongly on the Mopa issue. Goans knew where Mathany's proirties lay, Mathany did forsake the power of the chair for his beliefs and his convictions, let Alina state hers in public before the election. Manohar Parrikar has so far kept to few of his promises but by accepting in principle the Mopa proposal, which was not even in his election manifesto, he somehow seems to be in a hurry to cross over the Mopa divide, and if he thinks it will be easy to fool Goan he is mistaken. With his acceptance of the Mopa proposal he seems to riding the unbroken Mopa stallion bare back and is bound to fall flat on his face soon than later. Manohar Parrikar's uncanny support for Mopa has given the corrupt and the opportunists a wee bit of hope and like hungry hyenas they have already started circling the periphery around their prey with evil intent, Mopa will bleed Goa and the hyenas have sensed it and are ready to pounce at the first opportunity. My advice to Parrikar is, stay away from Mopa or it will eventually bring your downfall and the scavengers will be back with vengeance and with even more determination. People of the Cortalim constituency will have to weigh the value of their vote without getting emotional nor play in the hands of the power hungry hyenas, welfare of Goa and Goans is what they should look for as they cast their vote, and they will have to make sure that Alina Saldanha understands their stand on Mopa rather than that of Manohar Parrikar and I hope Alina on her part will see sense in supporting the causes of the people and those of her late dear husband, because Mopa has never been and will never be in the interest of Goa and Goans, Mathany Saldanha knew it and always opposed it.
