The first Konkanni Musical show 2010.
Melbournians were surprised to see the well performed konkanni musical
show for the first time ever where a teenager and semi professionals
joined forces at the St. Anthony’s Hall, Noble Park, Victoria, Australia
on the 30th October 2010 to perform at the first Nolasco daGama Konkanni
Musical show organised by the Konkanni Cultural & Heritage Inc. Victoria.

The show was opened by none other than Sarojini D’sa the nightingale of
Melbourne konkanni stage performing yesteryears of Lorna’s songs
followed by other artist singing songs of famous goan tiartrist. Son of
Candolim and official entertainer of CHOG(M) Dilip chico gave the
audience a crystal clear realization that Goan culture and heritage are
very much alive in Melbourne. Famous tiartrist Rico Rod’s daughter
Gladys Rod and well known Qawali singer Simon Mendonca’s song Mitacho
Farr brought back memories of what happens in a real Goan life when a
member of the family goes to the middle east.
The highlight of the evening was a 4 member song performed by Mario,
Royden, Titus and Simon on Goan clubs. The song originally performed in
Kuwait two decade ago brought excitement in the show and altogether gave
it a different flavour. Annabel Hendrique’s song Bandra Feastak not
only brought back memories of Bandra feast but also brought back
memories of late H Briton. Sarojini and Newton Marques songs boosted the
spirit of Goan culture which brought the audience Clapping and whistling
to their song Voddekara. The show was unfolded with other singers such
as Yolanne, Cherylanne (Chinky), Ursla, Annabel Gomes and Newton Marques
performing duets, Mandos and Dulpods. Well known Goan musician Josefato
Vales along with his band members Keenan Lazarus and Subash Menezes
brought back memories of one time king musician, late Chris Perry. Every
guest was given a warm welcome, taken to their seats and explained the
days programme by Titus, Royden, Simon, Jude & Solicitor Vernon daGama.
To bring in Goan aroma Chouricos pau were served to every guest
specially prepared by Ursla and Nancy.
Prominent Konkanni lover and architect of the show Mario Carvalho who
opened the show with a welcome speech stressed on Goan culture, Goan
unity and also addressed the crowd that the main intention of the show
was not to only learn and speak konkanni but also to promote the
language internationally. He thanked the sponsors and also the main
organizers of Konkanni Cultural & Heritage Inc members Jude & Sarojini
D’sa, Solicitor Vernon & Corryne daGama, Titus & Ursla Fernandes, Simon
& Nancy Mendonca, Royden & Lidia Rodrigues and Cherylanne (Chinky)
Carvalho saying without them this show would never be possible. The
others who also spoke at the musical show were Member of Parliament Jude
Perera & Vasan Srinivasan from the Federation of the Indian
Associations, Victoria.
The show was concluded with a novelty dance and Goan masala to the tune
of only Konkanni and Portuguese music played by Amor Sound & Event
managements. The show not only brought memories of Goa but also memories
of tiartrist of yesteryears. The next show to be organised by the
Konkanni Cultural & Heritage Inc. is the Carnival dance on the 26th Feb
2010 at the Scared Heart, Oakleigh, to bring in the carnival spirit and
the King Momo parade.
