Dears,

What is reproduced below is a page from www.savegoa.com the official website of
Goa Bachao Abhiyan maintained and updated by Noel Caldeira and Reboni Saha with
inputs from everyone and any one concerned with what is happening to Goa, the
land we all love.

The GBa has inspired a whole revolution: people willing to stand up and be
counted ... in Government offices, before magistrates and Directors, Panchayats
and Municipal Councils, in Gram Sabhas and in public protests. The leadership
is local, the inspiration is state-wide.

The powerfull lobbies are trying their best to break the unity of the "People
of Goa", beginning with the GBA. The Panchayats are being threatened with
dissolution, Gram Sabha members are picked up on trumped up criminal cases, the
anti-mining protesters are harrassed with Civil court cases. The print and
electronic media is a willing ally of the lobby ... their advertising revenues
come from there. Little do they realise what will happen to them if the readers
refuse to buy and read the copy. Who will advertise in a newspaper that does
not have circulation?

Each one of us has a sacred DUTY to stand up and be counted. Everyone need not
be an Oscar-winning hero or a memorial deserving martyr. Everyone serves
...even those who stand and stare. The only ones who do not serve are those who
sleep/sit at home.

Get involved in your own welfare ...that is PARTICIPATION!

Mog asundi.

The 'Save Goa Campaign' exists because beautiful Goa deserves a voice. It needs
solutions. It needs change. It needs action.

Be our eyes and ears

Although the Government has ostensibly revoked the Regional Plan 2011, we have
noticed that the state law enforcement authorities have not played a proactive
role in preventing the various violations we have encountered over the past few
weeks. Given these circumstances it may be prudent to assume that these illegal
activities will go on, and unscrupulous developers will continue to destroy the
land with impunity.

It is up to every one of us to be vigilant and keep a watch for the following
activities and report these immediately (see report violations):
1. Tree felling/burning
2. Hill cutting,
3. Construction within Coastal Regulatory Zone Areas, (see CRZ)
4. Filling of low lying fields, ponds, water bodies.
5. Destruction of mangroves, and filling of tidal backwaters

Photograph these sites and mail us the pictures. It would help if you first
checked if all permissions are obtained so that we can differentiate between
authorized and illegal activities. You can apply under the Right to Information
(see RTI) Act for copies of these permissions.
