The delegation was led by Mrs. Beena S. Naik President of the Association presented their views before the Director of Education Shri Anil Powar. The other members of delegation included Mr.Girish Chodankar, Mr.Amarnath Panjikar, Mr.Dileep Dhargalkar, Mr.Anant Pisurlekar, Mr.Sripad Bhat, Mr.Srikant More, Mrs. Anita Desai, Mr. Kiran Kammar and Mr.Prashant Naik. During the deliberations the President of Histag Mrs Beena S. Naik requested Mr Powar to support their demand of placing their scale into a different pay scale. Although Seventh Pay Commission has still not been constituted, the delegation said that as Central Pay Commission Reports are invariably adopted by the State Governments, it is the duty of Goa Government to see that Commission gives justice to the teachers in their report. The delegation also impressed upon Mr Powar to recognize the efforts of the teachers of handling the most important stage that of adolescence which is crucial in shaping the destinies of young minds. The present government should take a very strong stand to see that the morale of the Higher Secondary teachers is boosted. Higher Secondary teachers who are Post Graduates along with the training course of one year ie B Ed., have been always placed in the categories of school teachers and thereby, deprived of any upward promotion, the delegation told the Director. The delegation also stressed on waiving off of the existing criteria of ‘restricting frame of Selection Scale to 20% of teachers’ strength’, as there are many teachers who get retired after completion of 25-30 years of service and are deprived of their Selection Scale, the delegation said. The delegation also requested the Education Director that if the government proposes to bring in amendments to the Education Act or Rules, opinion from HISTAG be ascertained as teachers are the right stakeholders who can give proper inputs to the government. The delegation also demanded that provisions regarding sick leave and Study Leave be made in relevant Rules. The delegation later called on the Director of State Council of Education Research & Training, Shri Nagraj G. Honnerkeri, Chairman of the Goa Board Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Mr. Ferdino Rebello and the Secretary of GBSHSE Mr Bhagirath Shetye. Issues related to examination and paper correction centers, Trainings programs, orientation courses, seminars, etc for teachers from Board of Studies on various subjects were discussed.
