I met John Da Silva all too briefly and if I am not mistaken he even had a hand in the renovation of the interior of St. Joseph's Cathedral in DSM rh him briefly. He was a re multi talented fellow and contributed in the cultural and inter ethnic environment
The blog had many dimensions. I was struck by the people who paid tribute to him all people from all walks of life Arabs, Indians Europeans from England Germany etcAmericans and the Indian Government etc When it came to Goans once again there was several surprises ...Was Soter Da Silvaoriginally from Tanga and who did so much when the American Embassy was blown up in DSM paid tribute to him I had no idea that he was a Scoutmaster ...I liked the pinnacle he created with bamboo stems..... I am copying this to Judy..because her Dadrealized how much scouts can do to break down racial barriers Finally,va a cartoonist like Soters father in Law, Architect Anthony Almeida was also a cartoonist.etc He too broke the racial barrier..In Tanganyika only Whites were allowed to design Public Buildings. With an ARIBA from London he contested why he should not design the public buildings. The British Government in Tanganyika relented and all the police stations, starting with Oyster Bay and all overy Tanzania bears his imprints. He also built the University of Dar es Salaam Inter denominational Chapel , Cartoonists😊 As a redal Tanzanian Goan all this reminds me that in Goa there is the famous Goan Cartoonist Mario I have two 4 x 4 of his pieces on Tile ....he seemed to like like the blue hues from Portugal . Like the soda bottles with marbles ...I do not intend parting with my Mario Tiles Grandolfo In Makongo Juu
