-ST INEZ CREEK RECENT PHOTOS NEAR THOMAS MONTEIRO GARAGE NEAR ST. INEZ BRIDGE
Everyday when I pass by my scooter, through the St Inez Creek Bridge, ( AND NOT A NULLAH,) I get a sewage smell at the bridge near the Thomas Monteiro garage which is close to the PWD sewage plant. If you see these photos attached here there are lots of dirt, garbage, plastic left over materials, broken pieces of materials, plants, cardboards, coconut leaves ,and what not, and the water is always black in colour and sewage smelling. Whenever the aerator is ON just a less than a one square metre area a small patch of area appears clean and again back to square one. It is just like when you throw a big stone in the water, the water disperses and temporary looks clean. Authorities in Goa Government do not accept that the St Ines Creek has gone beyond control, and they think that aerators are doing wonderful work. When contacted the owner of the Thomas garage agrees with me, that the creek is smelling and when I told him if I give him a water fish tank with any size of pump motor whether 1/2 horsepower or even 2 horse power, alongwith many aerators put in, will the sewage or dirt disappear? He laughs. The creek can never be cleaned with this method. . It is a pity that some at the government authorities do not understand the concept of aerator in such a vast area having lots of dirt and sewage. Capt Joseph Lobo who is brain behind this project, is brother of Capt Leo married to Agnelo Pinto's sister and husband of Patricia Pinto must also understand that these aerators concept which is funded by M/s Cipla Co. will not work at all. It is a waste of money. Patricia ex-CCP, said as per the information received by me, from Sidharth by e-mail ( enclosed) that her WELL does not smell now after the aerators are installed. It is a mere shocking information. Now, Parsekar has decided to clean this Creek at last. If he succeeds I salute him. Government is yet to start. Please see what I have written earlier; CLEANING ST. INEZ CREEK By: Stephen Dias, Dona Paula Laxmikant Parsekar attended on Thursday a presentation by Resources International Company about the cleaning and beautification of the St Inez Creek. Parsekar. It has been reported that St Inez Creek and not Nullah will be cleaned up in two phases and Government pitches in to help CCP. I suppose Parsekar has visited the creek prior to the presentation and found all sorts of garbage dirt plastic material and sewage including other illegalities around the creek. Most of the constructions are illegal and just either on the vicinity or on the creek itself. There are people who are residing nearby and found releasing sewage into the creek. Also it has been found that the Creek width is narrowing day by day due to illegal constructions. There are even toilets at the banks of Creek. Those who are planning for short term measures by introducing aerators funded by M/s Cipla Co. are not going to solve the problem at all, but will only waste their time and finances. The Panjimites thank the Management of Navhind Times for reporting this long pending issue and happy that the Government is now pitches to help CCP in two phases to clean up the creek. The following responses received; *1. **Lake view-*The difference between the two photos, one taken on 4-11-2016 shows the degradation of water clarity due to presence of ‘algae’, a sign of excess organics. Photos of today show almost no algae and greater clarity of water. The two men engaged in keeping the lake clean has also reported a great reduction in algae. Also the smell from the inflow of Nallah water has reduced to a great extent. This has happened in spite of no direct intervention in the Lake. 2. *Kambrebhat-*Mr. Saturdaykar who lives next to the lake states that smell has reduced to a great extent and abundant of fish. Temple committee-same comment. Algae in water also greatly reduced. >From the photos, a lot of boys are engaged in fishing and a lot of movement can be noticed in the water. 3. *Thomas Garage-*Mr. Thomas Monteiro who lives alongside the Nallah states that the smell has been eliminated. His employee also living next to the Nallah has also stated the same. >From the photos, numerous amount of fish seedling observed. Water clarity noticed. *4. **Campal area-* Mrs. Patricia Pinto (ex-councillor PMC) has informed me that her well water that usually smells at this time and is rendered un-useable, has now no smell. Further added that the water is now being used to wash the soiled linen. Clarity of water in the Nallah from Inox to Vivenda by Taj has greatly improved. All the above can be verified from your end and given wide publicity to the decision makers for further action. Yours faithfully Captain Joseph Lobo The quality of your thoughts determine the quality of your life, your health, your well being and your countenance.
