Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi may replace Manohar Parrikar as the next
Defence Minister of India after the current budget session of Parliament.

Manohar Parrikar’s lackluster performance with his inability to communicate
effectively in Hindi and very frequent trips to Goa has apparently
attracted the wrath of BJP’s top leadership. That the controversial Manohar
Parrikar is currently being probed by the Goa Police on criminal charges of
having cheated the State exchequer has only added to his vows. The BJP is
hoping that Kiran Bedi’s vast administrative experience will help restore
the much needed stature, order and discipline in the crucial Defence
Ministry.

Manohar Parrikar is being given two options of either returning to Goa as
Chief Minister or rehabilitation by way of a posting as Governor.

Manohar Parrikar’s return to Goa may however come as a setback to those
within the BJP who expressed a sigh of relief that he was shunted to Delhi.
Like Bihar’s Jitan Ram Manjhi it may also upset Laxmikant Parsekar who is
still ecstatic over having reaped a lottery by becoming the Chief Minister
after Manohar Parrikar’s exit.

Manohar Parrikar was moved to Delhi on 9th November last year after a two
and half year tenure as Chief Minister of Goa which was marred by various
scams, rampant corruption and his U turns on all the promises made. Despite
having vowed of Zero tolerance to Corruption and Good governance, Manohar
Parrikar kept Goa without the much needed Lokayukta and State Information
Commission leaving room for corruption to further flourish and with no
transparency in governance.
