"World Konkani Day - 2009"
Goan Review Art Foundation (GRAF) the cultural body of the popular
Konkani-English bi-monthly The Goan Review in association with Konkani
Association-Mumbai will be celebrating The World Konkani Day 2009 at Antonio
D'Souza ANZA School Hall, Gloria Church, Byculla, Mumbai, 400 027 on Sunday
30th August, 2008 at 7.00 p.m.
World Konkani Day is being celebrated in recognition of Konkani as one of
the national languages of the country. This year, August 20, commemorated
the 17th anniversary of inclusion of Konkani in the eighth schedule of the
Indian Constitution.
This great day will be celebrated with a talk on the Konkani language by
Shri Lawrence D'Souza renowned Konkani litterateur and Hon. Secretary of
Konkani Bhasha Mandal Maharashtra, followed by a cultural programme
highlighting the rich traditional culture of the Konkan, consisting of
Mando-dulpods, folk dances, songs, mimicry & music.
Prominent Konkani personalities who have rendered yeoman service to the
Konkani literature, art and culture will be felicitated during the function.
Konkani activist and Director of Kalangan (Mangalore) Rev. Fr. Ramesh
Francis and renowned Management Consultant and Vice Chairman of All India
Konkani Parishad John D'Silva will grace the occassion as the chief guest
and guest of honour respectively.
