Just wondering: how much of this goes to others along the distribution
chain? Can the politician get a share too? Can a bit of it end up in Swiss
banks?

Not being cynical here, but such factors are important... FN

That's likely far more that the low grade iron ore is going for.

Tellicherry black peppercorns are our premium black peppercorns.

Tellicherry is a higher-grade pepper, made from the largest, ripest 10%
of berries from Malabar plants grown on Mount Tellicherry in India.
These peppercorns are left on the vine longer, which produces berries
with bolder, more robust flavour. They have a bright, almost citrusy
taste that make them really stand out as something special, and are the
preferred black peppercorn of most chefs.

Re: [Goanet] Goa Election Alliance

2016-08-08 Thread Jim Fernandes

I completely agree with Roland. Goans need to find/re-aliagn with people with
radical ideas in order to take the state in a different direction.

Electing the same old crooks - the BJP or the Congress party back in Goa would
be perilous for Goa. Sometime in the past, I was trying to gauge people's
appetite in Goa in order to make a heavier pitch for GSRP. But I was rebuffed
by almost everybody I contacted. These folks I contacted were deeply rooted -
either with BJP or Congress.

So there you go I said this before and I'll say it again (Sorry FN) ...
Goans deserve what they get - me included - even though I am not eligible to
vote in Goa anymore.

The gold digger from Canada likes to trumpet about the virtues of
globalization. You don't need to go too far to evaluate how "UNCONTROLLED"
migration can cause disaster to native peoples.

As a classic example, here is what I just found out when I tried to hire a new
cleaner for my house in Goa - as to why unchecked migration is bad for small
states like Goa:
A migrant laborer in Goa charges some ₹500/day while a Goan laborer doing the
same job demands ₹700/day. Why the disparity - one might ask.

The main problem is that the migrant laborer has lower expenses. He shares his
room with 10 other migrants which is basically like living in a rat hole,
rented out to him by his Goan landlord. He also shares his bicycle, utilities,
meals etc with his room-mates which brings down his cost of living.

The Goan laborer who is married with children, can't afford to live like many
of the single migrants. His living expenses are higher - which means, he has to
earn a higher wage.

But what ends up happening is that he is at the mercy of economics 101. Goans
will want to hire the cheaper migrant laborer for ₹500/day versus hiring the
local who is demanding ₹700/day. Because the cheaper laborer sees there is
plenty of demand in Goa for his services, he calls up his relatives, buddies,
neighbors - who all jump into the next available train passing through Goa and
begin to make a living there.

This unchecked migration feeds into a vicious cycle causing two major problems:
1. Wages for locals are kept under pressure compared to the rate of inflation
(more labor supply = less pay)
2. More migrants end up coming to Goa who in turn affect local elections.

Eventually, a stage will come when the migrants will outnumber locals - a
situation that will completely destroy local demographics and the only major
beneficiaries of this migration will be the politicians.

Why?

They get the votes!

Then there are others who'll say Aw come on Jim ... every Indian citizen
has a right to go to any other state of their choice and PURCHASE a property
and/or live in a state of their choice. Yeah, I heard this song before. That's
the bull they like to feed people with average intelligence. Tell Nehru I am
not a dude with average intelligence. Try buying a house in Kashmir and take up
residence there and see how fast they'll kick your rear end outta that place.
But a Kashmiri would have no problem buying a property in Goa. You can also try
your luck purchasing land in places like Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh,
Nagaland, Andaman & Nicobar etc and let me know your success rate.

Coming back to the wage issue, my local house cleaner makes ₹700/day in Goa. Of
course, I could have hired a migrant for ₹500/day to the do the same job. But I
made a choice to pay ₹700 for my worker because I could afford to pay what he
asked. Many people in Goa grumble that their voting power is diluted.

So there you have it

Jim F
Scarsdale, NY/Colva.

Note to the Canadian gold digger:
There is a difference between checked migration and un-checked migration. I
didn't go to the US jumping a fence over the border from Mexico. Given a
choice, more than half the Indian population would want to come and take up
jobs in the US. You can imagine what that would do the local demographics in
the US - a country with barely 300 MM people. Please don't come to me with a
stupid argument for globalization and the benefits of offshoring jobs. Think
before you respond or Google for my earlier GoaNet posts about globalization
before responding.

[Goanet] GHRC DIRECTS THAT TEA AND DINNER BE PROVIDED TO COPS ON ASSEMBLY DUTY

2016-08-08 Thread Aires Rodrigues
While once again reminding the Goa Government that Police personnel were
human beings and are to be treated as such, the Goa Human Rights Commission
(GHRC) comprising of Retired District Judge A.D.Salkar and Mr. J.A.Keny
today directed that tea with snacks be provided between 3 to 4 pm to all
police staff posted on duty during the session of the Goa Legislative
Assembly. The GHRC has further directed that the police personnel be also
served dinner on days when the session of Assembly extends beyond 8 pm.

Declining to accept the justification of the Director General of Police
that tea was never provided to the police personnel in the past, the GHRC
in its order today has expressed the hope that the authorities would take
this issue seriously and provide basic amenities to the police personnel on
Assembly duty as denial of such amenities is bound to affect the basic
human rights of the police personnel.

In a complaint to the GHRC last week it was pointed out that dinner and
evening tea was not being served to the police personnel despite the Chief
Secretary R.K Srivastava having on 12th April this year given a written
undertaking to the GHRC that all Police personnel deployed on duty during
the sessions of the Legislative Assembly will hence forth always be
provided food packets, water bottles and mobile toilet facilities and that
funds have been made available for this expense.

The undertaking by the Chief Secretary came after the GHRC in its report on
26th November last year asked the Goa Government to provide food and toilet
facilities to the police personnel posted on duty during the sessions of
the Goa Legislative Assembly.

In its report on the GHRC had observed that police personnel are human
beings and are entitled to be so treated. The GHRC in its report had also
further observed that not providing meals, drinking water and toilet
facilities to the police personnel posted for long hours during the
Assembly Sessions is a clear infringement of Article 21 of the Constitution
of India and also amounts to violation of their basic Human rights.

In the complaint to the GHRC on July 27th last year it had been stated that
it was very disturbing that inhuman treatment was being meted out to the
police personnel posted on duty during the Sessions of the
Goa Legislative assembly by not providing them food and toilet facilities.

Alleging that the treatment being meted out was a serious and gross
violation of the Human rights of the police staff, in the complaint it was
sought that the government be directed to explain this high-handed conduct
which amounted to a clear deprivation of Human Rights of the police
personnel.
