influence, as politicians are  prostrating before him and seeking his
blessings; Politicians sought his unconditional support and hence had to go
slow, ignore or  turn a blind eye to pay their obeisance. The  destruction
of life and property after the verdict , permitting 200 convoy of cars to
follow, allowing daughter to accompany him showed the complicity of
political nexus. Democracy shines with the support of rapist and murderer
it seems. The peace maintained thereafter after conviction shows that
political will initially was lacking.. For years   it has been a smooth
sailing for the Godman. Beant Singh his guard of Gufa for seven years has
corroborated the allegations of the rape victims. Only 2 girls dared to
come out against him and blow his  mask of holy saint, one of them being
the minor.  The informant has revealed that  90% of 300 Sadvis were
sexually exploited and 200 plus Sadhus were castrated,  rendering them
impotent to assure allegiance. These castrated Sadhus  are hardened
 criminals deployed to safeguard the nefarious activities of Ram Rahim. The
Goodman used religiosity, threats, incentive of Govt jobs, spiritual
powers, fear and unconditional  faith of the parents to have fold on his
followers. The sadvis were barred from talking with one another and had to
maintain a distance while speaking to men. Communicating and disclosing
could invite  dangerous reprisals. Honeypreet  wife of Viswas Gupta was
adopted as his a daughter, kept constant company and was seen by him in an
uncompromising position. He and his father who dared to raise their voice
were reduced to penury by influence of MSG. The bizarre ritual of induction
by mixing  a drop of blood with other liquids and serving to others was
reprehensible. The informant has also disclosed about numerous, routine
killings  of uncomfortable inmates, their bodies and bones buried in the
compound .The stocking of arms and ammunition  found on site of Dera,
military training, his  flamboyant lifestyles, accumulation of wealth at
Dera should be investigated along with social and financial audit.  Why the
 so called religious centres are allowed to be  turned into
virtual,impregnable, secretive fortresses?. The charges of murder of the
manager and brother of girl reporting the case to Court are crying for
justice and are in the process. The editor, who published the story  in Desh
Sevak on 25-9-2002 was shot dead .MSG used murder threat,   tactics as
deterrence to silence dissent  to those questioning his authority. The
subsequent Governments whether BJP or Congress have both used these Goodman
 openly or obliquely for political enhancements of their   electoral
 prospects  but now like kettle calling the pot black.

The sentence of 20 years of two confirmed rapes is  not to run concurrently
.The Chorus of mercy, leniency with folded hands needs to be ignored. The
demand is growing for  his hanging and life sentence as was  demanded by CBI
since the weight of  evidence is mounting. The inordinate delay in justice,
pressure on investigating agency has embolden him to continuing, repeating
the charges blatantly, for which he is being under the lense and made him
invincible.His lawyers have promised to move appeal in High Court even S.C
and case can be dragged still further and with his political clout things
will not be hastened as expected by public outcry .The cult of god men has
been prevalent in India. It is only recently that  depraved rapists like
Baba Asharam,Shakshi Maharaj .Swami Nityianand, Baba Nirmal are jailed by
long arm of the law, bringing the mighty Babas to their knees. Rahim Rahim
described those killed as gone to Heaven and raped victims as forgiven. The
informant fearing for his life has assured to depose when called for.

People of all sorts, specially those who are uneducated, insecure
emotionally and religiously seek the Dera, hoping for a better education
and future. But often their implicit trust is betrayed and turned into
victims of exploitation. The Govt Punjab, Harayna are unable to meet the
aspiration of the downtrodden and the gullible public is attracted to these
Deras   as a solution.
The original spiritual orientation of Dera Sacha may be allowed to
continue, Not all followers can classified as rapists. The centre should be
shut down temporarily by appointing an administrator. Investigations into
all aspects should be carried out and systems, accountability and
responsibility should be put in place The secrecy surrounding their
functioning should be scrapped making them transparent. It is possible that
his son may be appointed in the interim. MSG should be barred for life for
having any connection with

Three states Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh remained in virtual shut down mode, 
more than a lakh of followers streamed into Panchkula where Gurmeet Ram Rahim 
Singh was to apear in  a CBI court for verdict in a rape case. Section 144 was 
declared where even assembly of four people is prohibited. The Court and the 
Media issued timely warning for the government to act. Yet followers and his 
private army were allowed to assemble, whilst his motorcade to the court 
featured around 200 cars! The Haryana government was then pulled up by the High 
Court for inaction and fearing trouble if the verdict goes against the accused 
, more than17,000 para military and all the police forces available were 
deployed, and even the army kept standby after home ministry kept monitoring 
the now dangerous situation! 74 Trains were cancelled, schools and shops shut. 
Punjab where he has a huge following, ordered curfew to stop hordes pouring 
into Haryana. Vote bank politics and politicians criminal nexus allowed this 
Baba to acquire 700 acres of land and huge assets, train a private army and 
become a revered figure. Since 1990 this multi faceted Godman singer,actor, 
enterpreneur, film producer, sportsperson and Baba rapidly built his huge 
heavily walled and protected empire.  He reportedly has 17 Guiness world 
records, produced and directed 3 movies tax free, has business manufacturing 
and selling 151 products. He was declared guilty of rape, flown away in a 
helicopter to a safe place, and as expected his followers turned violent, 
burned vehicles and resulting in 30 deaths! The government is squarely 
responsible for sponsoring this man's popularity and empire in return for 
votes. He is reportedly getting VIP treatment in jail.The polarisation taking 
place in India due wrong policies/ vested interests and religion is playing 
with fire and the government seems to have not yet learnt  history's bitter 
lessons! The government is now blaming the court and the Press/media. Sakshi 
Maharaj, a BJP luminary reportedly implies the court should have given  an 
appropriate decision to satisfy lacs of Gurmeet's folowers respecting their

Give the tiger of St Andre due credit. It has been more than a year
since Vishnu Surya Wagh was struck by a debilitating heart attack that
took him away from his highly visible gadfly role in the state
legislature. Nonetheless, even while still recuperating, his name and
writing is centre stage in the biggest controversy to roil Goa's
cultural realm in many years. His 2013 collection of poems 'Sudhir
Sukta' has sparked fierce debate after being finalized for a Goa
Konkani Akademi (GKA) award. One of the judges, poet-journalist Sanjiv
Verenkar prematurely announced the jury decision in protest, telling
an interviewer, "Leaking the result is unethical, but my intention was
the greater good. The poems are critical of a particular community,
and have the potential to stoke communal tension...a government agency
shouldn't endorse such vulgar, reckless writing."

Whether or not Verenkar's actions have any merit, he did at least read
the book of poems. That is quite obviously not the case with the
clamouring mob of instant would-be censurers who popped up four long
years after Wagh's book was published, all demanding 'Sudhir Sukta' be
denied the state award, while berating the poems for being, among
other things, "a threat to society", "of discriminatory nature", and
"a harsh attack...using filthiest language". Taking matters further,
the credentials of one of the judges are being questioned, as she "has
no particular literary work to her credit". Meanwhile, another person,
who has actually read the poems, the book's publisher Hema Naik, has
unequivocally declared, "He has the freedom to write what he wants,"
and, "there is no basis to the allegation that the book targets a
specific caste."

Immediately after this dispute aired, educator and translator Augusto
Pinto has been rendering the general public a great service by swiftly
producing "rough draft" translations of some of Wagh's poems. Despite
the obvious strictures under which he's working to bring the original
Konkani into English at high speed, Pinto's renditions already easily
demonstrate that 'Sudhir Sukta' is made up of striking, vivid works
with terrific contemporary value, and of undeniably significant
literary merit. While raw with emotion, and powerfully vituperative in
parts, these poems are clearly amongst the most significant
contemporary contributions to Goa's literature, as well as an all-time
landmark achievement for Konkani poetry.

"Here nobody asks/ About the other's caste/ But everybody knows/ Who's
who." As Wagh alludes in his poem 'Castes' the purportedly egalitarian
society of Goa is almost imperceptibly jigsawed by caste (regardless
of creed). Despite the availability of multiple perspectives and
viewpoints, much too often the pendulum defaults to privileged upper
castes and their spokesmen (women also remain disgracefully
under-represented). Though the state's political realm experienced
what Goa University's Paresh Porobo calls, "India's first democratic
revolution", its entrenched cultural elites have never been challenged
by a democratic plurality of voices. Wagh's poem quoted above
poignantly continues, "Every caste has some desire/Some agony/But does
desire and agony/Have any caste?"

Read in the context of modernist literature, there is absolutely
nothing controversial about Wagh's poems. Instead, they fit perfectly
well into a grand global tradition that encompasses everyone from the

Kandasmy ('Algorithm for converting a Shudra into a Brahmin'). Wagh
himself has evidently drawn strength from the formidable Marathi poet
Namdeo Dhasal, who wrote, "I am a venereal sore/ in the private part
of language," and whose 'Man, You Should Explode' is a direct
fore-runner of 'Sudhir Sukta'. But there are many other antecedents,
including Bengal's "Hungyalists" of the 1960s, whose Debi Roy (born
Haradhon Dhara) similarly faced accusations of obscenity for his
forceful verse.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Wagh's 2013 book is suddenly unavailable. But
even now, as each additional poem is released in the media, or via
Augusto Pinto's translations on the Goa Book Club mailing list on the
Internet, the lasting worth of 'Sudhir Sukta' is being underlined.
Many verses are indeed profane, and also acerbic, wounded, resilient,
and filled with defiance and joy. While the Goa Konkani Akademi must
endeavour to maintain its integrity, and find a way to resist the
shameful pressure now being exerted on its leadership, there should be
no doubt these works are going to be read, remembered and celebrated
even if the state award is diverted. As Wagh's title poem says, "And
all who are with us/ Will see that our fortunes are reversed/ Not
because we are Sudhirs/ But just to live like human beings/ Just to
live like human beings."
