[Goanet] Bible verse for the Day
B.I.B.L.E. - Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth --- Matthew 18:19-20 === 19 Again, [amen,] I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
[Goanet] North and South divide on languages
India divided into North ,South on National Language Hindi is said to be spoken by 43 % and other local languages like Telgu, Hindi, Kanada, Marathi, Bangla constitute a mere 5 to 9%. That is precisely the logic and legitimacy of crowning it as the de facto National language as it I spoke by a sizeable majority .The NEP unveiled is new wine in old bottle. The medium of instruction in mother tongue and local languages, though not compulsory will be for the poor and not the elite, who have an alternative and means to pursue their choice.. The upward mobility in recent time in Education and professions will be a further setback .The South has been resisting the imposition and will continue the opposition for equal treatment for all languages. The knowledge of Hindi alone is wrongly presumed as the integrating the diverse Nation. Hindi is not sign of Nationalism or patriotism, as it is projected to be . Most of the signage’s are in Hindi and English and so also Govt. circulars, orders and communication and competitive exams. The P.M of India has mostly been from the Hindi heartlands, except for Narashima Rao and Devi Gauda, who was forced to deliver Independence day speech in Hindi, though he was not conversant with it, P.M speech from ramparts of red fort is always in Hindi the language of majority and will continue, even though it is intended for the whole Nation The Govt. of India was willing to push 400 crores for use of Hindi in UNO and once again reinforces the thrust towards one particular language in exclusion All the indigenous languages need equal treatment in the development to integrate a diverse Nation and Govt. is pushing, pursuing a hidden agenda on the issue of Hindi and Sanskrit The North too should include languages of South in Education, when there is provision for other languages like German ,French, Portuguese, Russian. Mandarin etc Hindi alone cannot be thrust down the throats as the link language for National integration Nelson Lopes Chinchinim

[Goanet] Fwd: How Important Is It Among all the Feast
Greg:: I get really upset when people get their facts wrong and even their history all completely wrong .With or without CORVIN 19 God made us to be creative My whole purpose of who invented World Goa Day ..it could not even replace the Celebration of SAof Lisboa and not only that ...but sheer voluntarism raised cash in Abundance CONGRATULATIONS to the whole team. Colin you and your friends .don't be dragged down by unnecessary squabbles We Goans have so much to thank GOD. Grandolfo Although In Quepem Proud of his Dar es Salaam Friends -- Forwarded message - From: Gregory Almedia Date: Tue, Aug 11, 2020 at 8:40 PM Subject: How Important Is It Among all the Feast To: Adolfo Mascarenhas Prof Grandolfo, You are becoming Cosmic by the day… The stars will twinkle less if you keep burning brighter..:) The Feast of St. Anthony at Mbagala in Dar was lovely. In a spiritual sense it awed all of us in the organizing team to see such a huge turnout. There was no one who attended this event out of fear of the Pandemic. Our expectations of a mere “double figure” shocked us all when the numbers rose to above 100 people from our Goan Community who turned up to pay homage to one our favourite Saint “St. Anthony”. Without exaggeration the number of people present were above 150 which included a few local Tanzanian and not forgetting the Sisters of “Wa Dada Mdogo” . We were blessed with the presence of Fr. Mario Dias as our main celebrant alongside the Director of Mbagala Spiritual Centre (Fr. Paul Shewiyo) and then there were another 3 priest and 3 Deacons who were part of the ensemble at the altar. The Sponsors Iona, Mark & Brenda and their families made a humongous effort to make sure we had everything in sync from the Deco to the event arrangement with assistance from The Hugo Domingo team (Originally known as Vayle Springs) and Barian Shah. Lovely Choir led by Joselle and the youth team. Snacks of assortments with Juice, water and Hot Masala tea were just perfect to cap the event. The Highlight of this feast among all other was that we never expected to have this event amid the fearful pandemic. We postponed the event from June to August to give it enough time to let the fear ease out. It did and we pray that this confidence be blessed by the faith of all of us here in Tanzania. Our set target of being able to feed 200 families at a budget of TShs 1,000,000/- every month for 12 months with a Zawadi top up of an additional 1,000,000/- for Christmas and Easter summed up to a total of 14 Million TSHs. Would we make it in this kind of a scenario where people were out of jobs and mentally psyched for survival?? I was dumbstruck…..On the day of the feast…8th August 2020…4.30pm…Just when I was finalizing the collections along with Brenda, I get a top up of additional donations…. We made it….We collected 14 Million 450 Thousand. This is not to say that we collected the highest amount…no…Through this scenario of the Pandemic and shortfalls…we made the impossible happen and this is all to the poor families who need to be fed. This is for you Grandolfo…Just to spearhead another of your favourite…”St. Anthony of Lisboa was the Miracle worker behind this achievement” Keep well. As always, Greg. *From:* Adolfo Mascarenhas [mailto:adca...@gmail.com] *Sent:* Tuesday, August 11, 2020 3:29 PM *To:* George Pinto; colin d'cruz; Frederick Noronha; Vivian A. [Goanet-News] This biography of Manohar Parrikar is silent where it matters (Pamela D'Mello, Scroll.in)
In 'An Extraordinary Life: A Biography of Manohar Parrikar' the writers ignore many facts even as they try to assess the former Goa chief minister's career. This biography of Manohar Parrikar is more hagiographic than critical, and silent where it matters PHOTO: Amit Dave/Reuters Aug 08, 2020 | 08:30 am Pamela D'Mello dmello.pam...@gmail.com An Extraordinary Life: A Biography of Manohar Parrikar comes a little over a year after the former Goa Chief Minister and Defence Minister died, losing an intense battle with cancer. Authors Sadguru Patil and Mayabhushan Nagvenkar -- both of them journalists -- have presented a light, racy, readable work, recapping three decades of political events. In 2019, Patil had preceded this offering with a Marathi book titled Goan Politics and Parrikar. The interesting details, newsy tidbits and colourful anecdotes are a plus for readers outside Goa -- as is the documentation of how the government ran (or didn't run) from the late chief minister's sickbed. It's the omissions and selective glossing over of too many controversial moves that, however, limit the book. The hagiographic tone of the book will appeal to Parrikar's many supporters. A selection of fond revelations by family and friends (collated from first hand and press interviews) take readers through his childhood and family situation, early years and dedication to the RSS, the days at IIT, Mumbai, marriage, setting up business as a young entrepreneur, and his first steps into electoral politics. Since Parrikar guarded his privacy fiercely, some of these drew the curtain on just how close the RSS was to his family and its grooming of the still young politician. Considerable attention is paid to his food preferences, smoking habit and other eccentricities. Of his Delhi days as Defence Minister in the Narendra Modi cabinet, the book details his loneliness and dislike for the capital's durbari culture. Significantly, it brings to a national audience what most Goans knew at the time -- the astonishing fact that Parrikar was in Goa, inaugurating a mobile fish stall, when the Rafale deal was being inked by the Prime Minister. He was in Goa regularly on weekends, operating from an office in Panjim and overseeing Goa matters by proxy. "It is likely that Prime Minister Narendra Modi dealt Parrikar the same hand which the latter used to deal to his council of ministers in Goa," the authors suggest -- pretty much taking decisions unilaterally, and conveying them post facto to the state cabinet or minister, as the book points out. One stunning decision in 2002, to dissolve the entire state assembly and force a fresh election, when he suspected rivals were plotting to dislodge him and he could be unseated -- stands out for its audaciousness. This forced the state to take the Constitutionally questionable move of borrowing from the Consolidated Fund, as the surprise dissolution had left the budget pending. Such daring decisions, however, built his reputation (he was a media darling then), demonstrating an end-justifies-the-means politics. An insight into the former Goa chief minister from RSS leader Ratnakar Lele stands out: "In 2005, he told me the feeling of losing power was as painful as someone trying to rub off one's skin". That's a candid quote if ever there was one. Details glossed over The book scores for documenting some aspects -- though not all -- of the mechanics of the BJP's and Parrikar's ascendance in Goa. Its show-don't-tell approach presents a warts-and-all measure of the man, but falls short on explaining the politics and context. It labours the details of several political episodes, but fights shy of tying up the analysis -- leaving readers with a less than holistic understanding of Parrikar's political acumen. Goa's first 2006 anti-Muslim violence at Curchorem, that saw prominent BJP leaders named and later cleared for "lack of evidence" -- finds no mention. It wasn't pleasant politics for a state that celebrates religious harmony. Vandalisation of Portuguese art style name plaques in the mid-noughties, demands for street name changes, etc, made the Christian community feel they were sought to be vilified by association and tarred as anti-national. Prominent citizens, who reacted to what they saw as a divisive assault on Goa's plural ethos, were raided -- case in point, a clinic and nursing home run by an eminent cardiologist, and several outlets of a confectionery business run by the co-founders of Lok Shakti, a front opposed to communal politics. Another trustee of an anti-corruption trust -- Nitoll Jinn -- was called on by the CID. Readers get an idea of tactical re-orientation, towards walking a more centrist line

[Goanet] World Goa Day 2020
Thanks to Dr.George Pinto for clarifying the origins of WGD. In the early years of 2000 Dr. Giese had also suggested a Goan Bank. I bet if this idea had to take off, the so called Rene would have also claimed that it was his baby. BC Colin, do not be fooled. History and facts are important and matter.??World Goa Day was initiated and started by Goa Sudharop. The idea was proposed by Filomena Giese, co-Founder of Goa Sudharop. Goa Sudharop paid for the initial set-up (website design, logo, domain, etc,) as one of Goa Sudharop's projects. I had initially suggested Jan 1 as the date - a new year, a new beginning?for Goans. The late Jorge Noronha (Portugal) suggested August 20 to coincide with Konkani being made the official language of Goa (1992). Goa Sudharop heavily promoted the idea of WGD. Rene was a Goa Sudharop advisor at that time but with a failure of character Rene brought the?publicity to himself and has never acknowledged?or corrected the record and promoted WGD as his own, never contributing a single penny (I hear this is still the case). I personally drafted many of the publicity emails Rene sent out, including articles for WGD.? For the record, Goa Sudharop did the initial work to launch?WGD and I pers onally spent a lot more time than Rene to get WGD off the ground. -*
[Goanet] Pilotv the return of prodigal
Pilot the return of prodigal PILOT has relented with consent of Congress It is a win win situation for both .PILOT rocked the boat in a calculated plan to stress his importance Congress too in consultation sacked with alarcity his post as the head of party .and Ghelot too did the same as deputy CM . The drama that unfolded has only soured relations. The money spent to keep the flock safe is any body's guess. The BJP tried their best to fish in troubled waters and slowly backtracked in desperation of a planned attack realizing that MP is not Rajasthan. . The numbers did not favour Pilot either and legislators reposted faith in Ghelot .The involvement of Ghandis cements their position on party. Asurances to Pilot to address his concerns are face saving device of reconciliation . Pilot was in a tearing hurry to achieve his ambitions without the shrewdness of Ghelot..It surely is calm before the storm. How will they both work together after pouring that bitterness in public domain. Will Pilot regain his position in the cabinet or remain a disgruntled toothless tiger badly mauled ? The embrace and home coming like prodigal son in the Bible is tobe seen on the ground . Will there will celebration of his return and restoration of his position in the cabinet ? Pilot has certainly lost control after aborting the flight landing on the belly . The truce may not last long as individual ambitions are strong and interest of party is at the discount. The proverbial wounds are healed but scars remain as the grim reminder of failure of political plot All is well that ends well wait and watch the second scene Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
