[Goanet] IFFI HAS BEEN OF NO BENEFIT TO GOA

2022-11-07 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Yet another edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will
commence on 20th November. An already bankrupt Goa Government will be
squandering crores on this needless extravaganza.

>From 2004 this annual over week long nightmare has in no way benefited the
State but only been a big window of opportunity for the politicians in
power to rake in huge moolah. Even the small contracts of this event are
not entrusted to our local artists.

With its crumbling infrastructure Panaji is already a very congested city
and the added traffic chaos on account of IFFI is something the city could
do without. With the fun and frolic at taxpayers expense, IFFI has only
further burdened an already cash strapped State, besides that extra pile up
of tons of garbage that IFFI generates and the municipal authorities have
to grapple with. The common man also suffers as the day to day government
administration takes a break with officials all pre-occupied with the IFFI
fiesta.

IFFI has been a great bonanza only to the workers of the ruling party in
power and not been advantageous to the State at all. The ground reality is
that what has been staged annually is infact the International Fraud
Festival of India.

Sensational letter bombs by Suresh
Sensational letter bombs by Suresh

It is surprising that conman Suresh lodged in jail is writing sensational
letters to the Governor of Delhi from the jail. That so much of publicity
and credence is given to, it is political fishing in trouble waters. It
need to verify such claims exposing after a gap of 6 years. It appears that
he is inspired to do so.Kejrival is emerging a real threat to BJP citadel
of power after winning in Punjab.Ashitosh too had leveled charges against
him for similar story of selling Raja Sabha seat. which to this date
remains unresolved..Kejrival is emphasizing development programmes which
are popular and effective.Does not devote on personal tirades against
anyone. He is likely to make a dent in Gujarat which prospects alarm BJP
thinkers.Kejrival rose to power on the wings of sustain campaign against
corruption
Attempts are made to project him as corrupt surrounded by likes of S.Jain
in jail and Sisodia being under active surveilance by enforcement
directorate and others. In a desperate moves his close aid has turned
approver possibly under threat and duress
The Gujerat electionscare perceived as real threat as APP is making
inroads for the first time
REMEMBER PC Chidambaram was also implicated by a woman in jail accused of
murdering her own daughter. Nothing serious has emerged in the
investigations of similar charges of bribes
BJP looks like deflecting the serious fall outs of Morji Bridge collapse
and murders by negligence and hence Kejrival is the favourite political
punching bag. In Punjab too he was accused of nursing the prospects of
being PM of Khalistan
The massive defeat has left them red-faced .AAP surely appears to be an
alternative of good governance having positive image of social
development winning Delhi a second time against all odds

FN,Simply put, Mugabe lost his senses while in the prison of the State House. A
prison he created for himself. He will not be remembered for the mystical
quotes he made or attributed to him. Mugabe will be remembered for ruining the
country.

Here are just a few of Mugabe’s original thoughts.
“I am still the Hitler of the time. This Hitler has only one objective: justice
for his people, sovereignty for his people, recognition of the independence of
his people and their rights over their resources. If that is Hitler, then let
me be Hitler tenfold. Ten times, that is what we stand for.” – State funeral of
a cabinet minister, 2003

“I have died many times – that’s where I have beaten Christ. Christ died once
and resurrected once.” – To state radio on his 88th birthday

“Only God, who appointed me, will remove me – not the MDC, not the British.
Only God will remove me!” – Election rally, 2008. MDC is an opposition party.

Once again, the man “believed” that only he could be in charge and ruined the
country.
He now resides in the dustbin of history.

Subject: Re: [Goanet] The Marvelous, Mysterious JoeGoaUk
Many individuals Goans on Goanet and elsewhere, take a personal interest in
some aspect or the other related to general interest.  That is very
complimentary and exemplary.  Their interest over the years results in much
collected and collated material.
Have they given a thought what should/can be done to all that enduring work? Is
there a library or museum that will preserve and expand on the work? Or will
the children or grandchildren or Father-time just throw it in the dustbin
because of their lack of interest.
A few years, I visited my wife's cousin in Montreal who had a fondness for
books and an avid reader and writer.  On his passing away, his basement was
full of books. All those calling to share the condolences was asked to visit
the basement and take five books as a souvenir of the person; as his wife and
children just did not know what to do with that massive collection.

[Goanet] The Catholic INQUISITION

2022-11-07 Thread Eddie D'Sa

he Catholic INQUISITION
The Inquisition was an ecclesiastical court and process of the Roman
Catholic Church setup to discover and punish heresy. It wielded immense
power and brutality in medieval and early modern times. The Inquisitions
function was principally assembled to repress all heretics of rights,
depriving them of their estate and assets which became subject to the
ownership of the Catholic treasury, with each relentlessly sought to
destroy anyone who spoke, or even thought differently to the Catholic
Church. This system for close to over six centuries became the legal
framework throughout most of Europe that orchestrated one of the most
strict religious orders in the course of mankind.

Inquisition Procedure
At root the word Inquisition signifies as little of evil as the
primitive “inquire,” or the adjective inquisitive, but as words, like
persons, lose their characters by bad associations, so “Inquisition” has
become infamous and hideous as the name of an executive department of
the Roman Catholic Church.
All crimes and all vices are contained in this one word Inquisition.
Murder, robbery, arson, outrage, torture, treachery, deceit, hypocrisy,
cupidity, holiness. No other word in all languages is so hateful as this
one that owes its abhorrent preeminence to its association with the
Roman Church.
In the Dark Side of Christian History, Helen Ellerbe describes how the
same men who had been both prosecutor and judge decided upon the
sentence of heresy. Once an Inquisitor arrived to a heresy-ridden
district, a 40 day period of grace was usually allowed to all who wished
to confess by recanting their faith.

http://return2sanity.blogspot.com/2016/07/the-horrors-of-church-and-its-holy.html

After this period of grace had finished, the inhabitants were then
summoned to appear before the Inquisitor. Citizens accused of heresy
would be woken in the dead of night, ordered, if not gagged, and then
escorted to the holy edifice, or Inquisition prison for closer
examination.
In 1244, the Council of Harbonne ordered that in the sentencing of
heretics, no husband should be spared because of his wife, nor wife
because of her husband, and no parent spared from a helpless child. Once
in custody victims waited before their judge anxiously, while he
pondered through the document of their accusation. During the first
examination, enough of their property was likewise confiscated to cover
the expenses of the preliminary investigation.
The accused would then be implicated and asked incriminating and luring
questions in a dexterous manner of trickery calculated to entangle most.
Many manual’s used and promulgated were by the grand inquisitor
Bernardus Guidonis, the Author of Practica Inquisitionis (Practice of
the Inquisition) and the Directorium Inquisitorum (Guideline for
Inquisitors) completed by Nicolaus Eymerich, grand inquisitor of Aragon.
These were the authoritative text-books for the use of inquisitors until
the issue of Torquemada’s instructions in 1483, which was an enlarged
and revised Directorium.

Subject: Of Tattoos and Stigmata

Of Tattoos and Stigmata

Fr. Thomas G. Weinandy, OFM Cap.: Not many receive the visible
stigmata as did Sts. Paul, Francis, and Pio, yet all of us do bear the
invisible stigmata, for we too have died and have risen with Christ.

I recently saw a cartoon of a football coach exhorting his new
recruits. After he had finished his pep talk, one young rookie asked:
“When do we get our tattoos?” Which led me to reflect.

For the past twenty or more years, tattoos have become very
popular, both for men and women. Moreover, they have become much more
elaborate and ubiquitous – on arms, legs, thighs, back, chest, belly,
and neck – in various combinations. Likewise, there are various creative
designs – swirling patterns in multiple colors interlaced with flowers,
butterflies, or birds.

Although some tattoos are hideous, macabre, and even
demonic, many tattoos are “in good taste” and often quite appealing, and
even sexy – that is, if one is young and, so, with still firm skin.

Few things can be more unattractive than a tattoo on drooping,
sagging, wrinkled, aging flesh. In the not-too-distant future, such
withering tattoos will become common.

[Goanet] Goa Diary, November 07, 2022: Tambdi Bhaji and other matters

2022-11-07 Thread Rajan Parrikar
Well-prepared Goan tambdi bhaji is one of life's great pleasures. It is the
only constant on my daily lunch plate when I'm in Goa. See this link for
more on this wonder food -

https://blog.parrikar.com/2019/02/21/tambdi-bhaji/

While the basic template in preparing tambdi bhaji is well established
throughout Goa, there are variations to be found across geographical and
'caste' lines. (I put 'caste' in quotes as the word derives from Portuguese
and is a reflection of the early Westerner's inability to understand
ancient India's social structure. The lack of understanding, transmitted to
unsuspecting Indians, continues to this day, but that's another topic for
another day.)

To the discerning this presents an opportunity to develop a deeper
understanding not only about gastronomic nuance but also of our social
fabric. The tweaks cover things like the resolution (fineness) of the
chopped vegetable, proportion of grated coconut used, the specific
seasonings, whether it is cooked al dente or softer, and so on.

Such variance across jati & geography prevails throughout the length and
breadth of India. In Dharwad, one comes across Lingayat khanavals (lunch
houses) and Brahmin khanavals. The Lingayats are Saivites, worshippers of
Shiva. In their khanavals, garlic is used liberally, whereas the Brahmin
khanavals eschew the pods entirely.

I was again reminded of this beautiful aspect of our culinary
sophistication the other day when I found myself at a home in the tiny
village of Tikhazan. It was the night of Tulsi Lagna and celebrations were
afoot in the front yards of homes in Chorão and the surrounding villages.
One family spontaneously invited us, unknown to them, into their home and
lavished us with kindness and warmth and food - true Goenkarponn on
display. The masala used for the patal bhaji was out of this world. Close
in spirit to the masalas of the Pernem region but distinct enough to have
its own signature. My wife, who researches traditional Goan preparations,
quickly went into a profitable consultation mode with the lady of the house.

Tulsi Lagna 2022 will receive its own post on my Photo Blog but it'll have
to wait until my return to Iceland. I prefer to do serious image processing
on my main machines and monitor. Likewise, for my post-to-come on the
Narakasur night.
