[Goanet] Desires to be immirtal

2023-01-16 Thread Nelson Lopes
 Desires to be immortal

Mankind and human beings through ages desire to live their cherished
memories of footprints and finger prints on the hearts and minds of people
for generations to come. It is an ambitious longing to remain in the
consciencesness of society to perpetuate their existence , achievements
and contribution to the society during their life and after their demise.
It is done by embalming , niches and tombs in the cemetry,.dedication of
roads bridges ;gardens , hospitals , libraries, ,airports, sports fields
or public monuments in prominent places. These are more landmarks for
direction that hardly evoke the attributes of the person. The other means
are holding tournaments.institution of awards., scholarships,
endowments ,annual felicitations , distribution of aid to poor and
deserving release of public advertisement, power wer, printing of
souvenir , yearly calendars , Books ,films .VCD's , CD's, plays ,lyrics
,poems have some impact and effect on revival of memory. The more
beneficial approach and attempt is to do annual charity to the
marginalized and deserving poor or visit prisons ,orphanages, old aged
homes entertain them with gifts etc The catholics offer perpetual
masses in honour of departed Discourses, talks, seminars, debates bring
alive to reflect on their achievements
The political class takes maximum advantage to perpetuate themselves and
their kin ,not that public is enamoured about them but use public money
,resources to revive and drum up forced interestsPopular social
welfare schemes, landmarks are dedicated to their memory and even
postage stamps released, currency , coins in their honour
When out of position such schemes and observatio of days are conveniently
ignored or held in breach .Prominent position makes it compulsory to hang
their potos in public Govt institution during their tenure in office. The
politicians have also renamed institutions after themselves or supporters
and immortalized by raising even patronising temples in their names
Infamous personalities like Pontius Pilate recalled in liturgy for
sentencing Jesus to be crucified by washing his hand to convey his
innocence.HITLER is remembered for extermination of Jews in concentration
camps and in gas chambers although there are no monuments to their
infamous glory they remain in public mind .Osama Bin Ladden memory is
refreshed with terror and terrorism Brutality and savagery reminds about
Idi Amin Vladimir Puttin too will survive in our memory for his acts of
brutality in Ukraine Thus good and bad find repository in active memory too
without any visible monuments dedicated officially
The politicians all over the world appropriate glory to become immortal
.Mahatma Ghandi only Indian icon, dubbed the angel of peace singularly
finds recognition in various parts of the world and on Indian currency
Religious heads have places of worship dedicated to their honour and are
recalled in religious services by the faifull and believers.Catholic saints
are similarly revived for their life commitments through statues, adoring
sacred remains, ceremonies in Holy places etc Some despots have their
potos on currency too
Married people remain documented throug DNA signatures of offsprings

[Goanet] WILL BETTER SENSE EVER PREVAIL?

2023-01-16 Thread Aires Rodrigues
The government should focus on finding solutions and resolving public
issues rather than wasting time on needless functions. Applications under
various government schemes should be processed and handled efficiently and
without unnecessary delay solely by the concerned departments. Now we see
an absurd trend of Ministers and ruling party MLAs handing over approval
letters to the beneficiaries. What a cheap photo-op. Now even work orders
are being handed over by Ministers with the Chief Minister handing over the
one for the proposed Convention Center at Dona Paula. What a waste of time
while the government is insensitive to dealing with burning issues.

State organized public functions should only be where absolutely required
with expenses curtailed wherever possible. Having functions for laying the
foundation stone of all and sundry should be avoided which also keeps
officials unavailable in their offices to attend to the public. While
incurring any expenditure, it should weigh heavily on the mind of the
government of how the State coffers are in dire straits while struggling to
make ends meet with regular borrowing. The government recklessly spending
is a recipe for bad economics.

The Government has to go a long way to deliver on the promised Good
Governance as every step it takes is in the wrong direction. Rationalizing
the functioning of the government and the need for prudent State spending
is glaringly obvious and the need of the hour with financial and moral
bankruptcy staring us in the face. The priority for the Government must
always be to act on its primary responsibility which is to look after the
welfare, health and security of its people with accountability and
transparency.

[Goanet-News] ITNT: Mhadei rally... mining auctions... CM blames Opposition... AG's stance... Joseph Vaz feast... Ashley do Rego... no Goan footballers in jr squad

2023-01-16 Thread Frederick Noronha
IN THE NEWS TODAY [JAN 16,
  2023]: Herald has over a
  quarter page,
  sloganeering-style headline for
the rally for "Mother Mhadei at
  Sankhali". The CM's comment on
the issue is also top of the
page. With another piece on RG
  (Revolutionary Goans') stance,
the whole page goes to this
  issue. Following the Rajan
  Narayan style of campaigning,
  lots more Mhadei stories in
  today's paper. By contrast,
  Dainik Heyrald, its Marathi
  sister publication, is more
  restrained in its coverage. A
  Nepali plane crash is the
  top-of-page1, while
  'Mhadeisathi Janandolan'
  (People's Protest Over Mhadei)
  is the largest-sized heading,
  middle of the page.

The Navhind Times leads with the
'Mining auction will be completed in 3
months' story. Top of its page is the
Nepal plane crash story, which killed
6t8. There's also a two-column promise
from CM Sawant, that "Goa will get
justicie on Mhadei". Another news item
says Saipem villagers demanded that
either the factory be shifted, or
villagers be relocated (after the
industrial estate fire last weekend).

Navprabha highlights the chief
minister's charge that the Opposition is
responsible for the Mhadei "water
question". "Mhadei paani prashnala
virodhak jababdar". Also coverage to
water minister Subhash Shirodkar's stand
on the issue.

The Goan's banner reads 'Stage set for
mega Mhadei rally today'. It quotes Goa
Advocate General Pangam as saying
"Diversion issue [is] not of Mhadei
river, but Kalsa, Bhandura tributaries".
The official is said to "clears the air,
asserts law does not allow diversion as
no river that flows through wildlife
sanctuary can be diverted". Another
report says, "CM, ministers aim to dilute
backlash."

Govan Varta, from the same group,
banner headlines quotes CM Sawant as
blaming the Congress for the Mhadei
imbroglio: "Mhadeyi paani Kangraschya
kalant valvale". It highlights the view
of AG Pangam. Another front page report
notes that 271 people died in road
accidents in Goa in 2022.

  Bhangarbhuim, the lone Konkani
  daily, has a five-column
  headline which blames the
  Congress: "Congressan
  Mhadeichem udok ghundailya".
It highlights the stand of AG
  Devidas Pangam too. Also: news
on the Assembly session, and a
  frontpager on the death of
  Konkani writer Jaymala Danait.
  Highlight on the mining leases.

Gomantak Times (e-version only)
highlight St Joseph Vaz's feast and the
Cardinal's statement; announces Goan
violinist Ashley do Rego's music
workshop; and says a children's tiatr
competition is coming soon to Margao. It
also notes: "Not one Goan footballer part
of friendly [series] against the UAE
U-20". It highlights a link to Dr Jack
de Sequeira. Among the other stories (i)
Day 1 of the Goa State Assembly turns
stormy over Mhadei issue (ii) Goa wakes
up to a Monday morning enveloped in fog.
