'Keep Awake' rumour has Goa in tizzy! HERALD REPORTER MARGAO, AUG 22 – This rumour – which spread like wild fire in many parts of Maharashtra in the last two days – gripped Goans as well in the wee hours of Friday. The rumour read like this – keep yourself and your children awake or risk dying in sleep, literally keeping many a children awake in the wee hours of today. The rumour was so strong that many parents actually disturbed the sleep of their children by waking them up at 3 am and staying awake till 4.30 am. What made some of the parents apprehensive was the rumour that the children may die in sleep if they are not kept awake till 4 am. The origin of the rumour remains unknown, even as sources from the Public Astronomical Observatory, Aquem said there was no major celestial event or planetary effect on humans today. Says Margao Municipal Councilor Rajendra Azgaonkar: The rumour was so strong that many people in Davorlim and Housing Board were awake the whole night. Even I had received a call at around 4 am saying the celestial event will take place around that time'.
