JC>>>> Dear Tony, I know the following for a fact:
1: Doctors are being given gifts by 'drug representatives'. 2: These gifts come in all sizes and shapes. 3: Some doctors - in positions of influence - are even known to demand the 'gifts' 4: Yours truly does NOT accept even a glass of water from the pharma-reps 5: Some of us who belong to the "No Free Lunch" group have managed to get the Pharma Companies to publicly list these gifts (at least in the US). Please access: http://www.propublica.org/series/dollars-for-docs 6: It is upto other NGOs in other countries to take this baton for their own areas. AS FAR AS THE 'CASE' described by Tony is concerned 7: Before you take the next step, please ascertain the facts. 8: If there is reason to suspect that this is going on, Think about how one can proceed on a 'criminal complaint' about the matter. 9: There are several issues including: Theft and Cheating by way of Kick-Back. 10: Some democratic countries have Anti Kick-Back and Qui Tam provisions (whistleblower) jc ps: I hear from a number of individuals that funds are handed over to certain admin-based physician(s) to 'guarantee' a patient's admission to hospital. This is disgusting. Once again ......Thank You Barath! Dear Dotor, It makes me glad to know that there are ethical and principled doctors and that you have been among the foremost in discouraging unethical medical practices. With regard to the case I have cited, the information is 10o p.c. true because the person who discovered the racket confronted the doctor who 'confessed'. Point is the person who uncovered the racket also works in a field allied to the medical profession and he fears that action against the doctor will adversely affect his company. However he has warned the doctor that if such instances are repeated, he will go public! The things happening in the med profession as outlined in your last para are indeed disgusting. -- ** "Tony de Sa" < tonydesa at gmail dot com > ** --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
