GOANS TRAPPED IN LEBANON. While watching the scenes of evacuation of the expatriates in Lebanon, it reminded me of the missery we faced in 1990 during the invasion of Kuwait by Saddam's Iraq and our subsequent evacuation to Goa. I dont know how many of our Goans are trapped in Lebanon currently but surely there will be many, some of them may be maids and male servants accopanied to their Gulf employers vacationing in Lebanon. While Israel is pounding Lebanon, Hezbolla is also retalliating with ferocity but Israel's fury is more. During our evaquation from Kuwait there was uproar all over the world including condemnation of Iraq by the World, now what is happening in Lebanon the World especially the West is watching silently. The West is totally in support of Israel point of view, it looks.
The world understood Israel's point of view not because Israel is right but Arabs are wrong in clearly exposing the misdeeds of Israel to the West. In the Arab and Islamic world there is not a single leader who can make the point of Arabs and Muslims audible to the world in general and West in particular. The current Arab Muslim leaders are depicting the Middle East crisis as the crisis of Muslims only and thereby get no proper support for their cause. In the Arab World there is no secular leader who is accessible and accebtable to the West. Hence, the Arab cause looks like secterian cause of Muslims only. The West doubts Muslims credentials. The only leader Arab World had was Anwar Sadat who could create a dent into the West and make the point of Arabs audible to the West but unfortunately he was assassinated by his own people and not by the Israelis, not by non Muslims. The Islamic world had only one powerful leader in Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and he too was assassinated by his own Muslim leader and not by non-Muslim on questionable judgment. When Bhutto was speaking, the whole world was listening, that was the power of his tongue, wisdom and secularism in the Muslim World. The current leaders in the Middle East are projecting the Middle East problem as if it is a problem of Arab Muslims only which is not correct. In the Middle East problem, both the communities, Muslims and Christians are equally victimized. In Palestine and Lebanon both the Muslim and Christian communities are suffering and both these communities are victimised by the Israelis. Currently there is not a single gigantic leader in the Arab and Muslim world to project their views to the West. It is not enough to project their views only but they must be made to accept by the West. Which is the current leader in the Arab and Muslim world who got acceptability in the West? To my knowledge, none. During the last so many days Lebanon is burning due to the spark produced by Hezbolla for which Israel was waiting to capitalize and finally Israel got on silver platter what it wanted. Israel is now all out to destroy Lebanon in the name of Hezbolla and to do this Israel has got blessing not only from USA but from the entire West and also partly from the East. George Bernard Shaw once said "if rape is inevitable, the girl should not resist but just lie down and enjoy". Arabs and Muslims cannot fight with Israel and hence they should not resist Israel's existence. Israel's existence is strongly backed by USA. When Anwar Saddat volunteered to compromise with Israel during the last days of the last Arab - Israeli war it was on solid basis because as he said in his own words "I realized that I am fighting this war not with Israel but with USA and since I am incapable to fight with USA, I quit". Israel is come to stay and it will stay, this is a hard fact which must be acknowledged by everyone, though however much I, you and he may hate and dislike Israel for its attrocities on Palestinians and Lebanese. Israel is the curse in this part of the world. It is a destructive factor and communalist number one. Israel's hatred towards Christians and Muslim is well known. But inspite of this can Arabs, Muslims and Christians eradicate and put Israel into the sea? Impossible, at least in the foreseeable future. Though the Israelis came from Diaspora yet surely history will repeat itself and again Israelis will go into Diaspora but to happen this it will take a time. By sheltering Hezbolla on its soil, Lebanese Government has created a State within a State even by diminishing it sovereignty. For two weeks now Israelis are pounding Lebanon and yet no power on Earth is trying to silence Israeli aggression. All are silently evacuating their nationals from Lebanon without raising their voice against this Israeli aggression thereby accepting the destruction of Lebanon by Israel. Is World so immune to the suffering of innocents in Lebanon? Or the World wants to show its solidarity openly with Israel's existence? I feel the World is with Israel and those who are trying to resist Israel should change their policy as Anwar Sadat did. What Sadat could not gain for Egypt thru war he got it thru peaceful negotiations. Peaceful methods are the only alternatives for Arabs to fight with Israel. Otherwise, Israel will never keep sielnce because what matters for Israel is it own survival for which sake it will do anything within its own capacity which is far, far more greater than the combined capacity of the entire Arab World.
