Convenor of Goa Bachao Abhiyan (GBA) Dr Oscar Rebello has been nominated for CNN-IBN's Indian of the Year Award 2007 in public service category Vote for him at: http://www.cnnibnindianoftheyear.com/publicservice_voting_new.php --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dears, Rediff.com has got the numbers right [somehow Zeenews seems to have fumbled on the legislative arithematics, not that Party labels matter any more than designer labels on Emperor's clothes ;-) ] As per the latest reports two NCP ministers [Mickky and Jose Philip] and the Vish wa jeet [not both] have tendered their resignations from the CABINET and not from the Assembly. the resignations have bveen sent to the Governor, and not to the CM as they should have been. Jose Philip has been quoted as saying that he still supports the Government, though he has resigned his Ministership. Dr. Willy has been asking for a berth for the third NCP MLA [Nilkant Halarnkar]. this fits his bill well. Vishwajeet and Babush Monserrate have been Bhai-Bye before also. So have Manohar and Babush or Rane Sr. and Babush. Like a potboiler or a Sherlock Holmes book, expect the unexpected! Goan politics is something like "Kyon ki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi" an unending drama with lots of advertisements and other "commercial breaks" like RP 2011, SEZ, IT Parks, etc , etc. It may even be a stage managed event like the GDA parade of July, 2007, at the Rashtra Patni Bhavan. Apparently, Babush refused to join the parade then saying it was not yet carnival time ...and he was not a Divadkar to celebrate Bonderam in the rainy season! He did not play ball and instead came home to the Raj Bhavan. Adv. Uday Bhembre of the Congress Think Tank is a veteran of such games that require balls. He is now a consultant, not a player. Priya is the President of yet another ball game that is popular on "Fatorda grounds" of Churchill Brothers' fame. Lets see who loses in this "Sudden Death" ...a penalty for fouling up SEZ and IT Parks and looking for the kick-off to the spending spree on the National Games. Life is about money, honey. The Finance Minister will take the first hit ..... or win the Golden Boot ;-) In Portuguesse it is spelt Fut Bol and in Amchi Bhas it is written as Futt Bol ...somehow left untranslated as "Payam bol" as it should have been. Chol Futt!! Mog asundi. Sources said the Goa Appropriation Bill, 2008 could be under threat when it is taken up in the assembly, which is now in session if the mood of some of the ruling coalition's legislators, including the Nationalist Congress Party's ministers, is any indication. In a House of 40, the ruling coalition has 23 members -- Congress (16), NCP (3), Save Goa Front (2) and Independents (2). United Goans Democratic party's unattached legislator Atanasio Monserratte gives issue-based support to the government. The opposition has 16 members with BJP (14) and MGP (2). The revolt apparently stemmed from growing opposition to Narvekar's policies. With the numbers game in the assembly becoming crucial, a group of ministers, including Health minister Vishwajeet Rane, Atanasio Monserratte and Save Goa Front legislator Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, are understood to have come together to test the Digambar Kamat government on the floor of the House. The state government, which has cancelled special economic zones in the state, is facing heat over the proposed Rajiv Gandhi IT habitat. Narvekar, who is also IT minister, is supporting the park, which is opposed by Monserratte. Senior Congress leader and Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunshi is currently in Goa for a football event and is reportedly working on steps to defuse the crisis. Sources said BJP may support the breakaway group to form an alternative government, if the chief minister is defeated on the floor of the House. ------------------------------ Message: 8 Date: Wed, 16 Jan 2008 05:15:54 -0800 (PST) From: "Rajan P.
