With the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) seeking time to file its reply, the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) comprising of Retired District Judge A.D.Salkar and Mr.J.A Keny has adjourned to 3rd November the hearing on the complaint filed over the lack of a proper crematorium for the residents of Fonduvem in Ribandar. The Director of Municipal Administration has informed the GHRC that it has sought the comments of the CCP on the issue.
The GHRC last month issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Director of Municipal Administration and Commissioner of Corporation of City of Panaji after it was pointed out that for the Fonduvem ward at Ribandar the ‘Shree Pandurang Devasthan’ has been struggling over the last few decades to get a appropriate Crematorium. The authorities have miserably failed to ensure that the 100 odd households in the locality are bestowed a proper crematorium for their final rites. The authorities need to explain as to how they have in violation of the Human Rights of the 100 odd families of Fonduvem ward at Ribandar failed to provide a proper crematorium.
