Could they be influenced by the fact that SmartGWT is LGPL while
ExtGWT is GPL?

I use ExtGWT too so understand your question.
They're just pointing out related projects like Gilead which I do use!
If ExtGWT wants to announce a release but the blog says no, then let's
raise a ruckus. I bet it won't ever happen though.
