Comment:

 I believe the original use case is addressed now by adding multiple
 databases to the data catalog (PR:761) and storing this list in the
 settings (PR:858), so closing this as fixed. The "remember recent" concept
 is still of interest, so if anybody has an idea how that would work within
 the [https://github.com/OSGeo/grass/projects/1 New Startup], please create
 a new issue on !GitHub.

 Hi,

 maybe it would be possible to use settings widget (Load settings: in gui
 of r.in.gdal or dialog for adding web service layers)  to allow user
 storing frequently used GIS Data Directories. This widget could be by
 default hidden (on click on arrow it could be expanded), because most of
 user probably works in single GIS Data Directory.

 What do you think? Do you have any other suggestions?

 I have a GIS Data Directory on my local machine as well as on a network
 drive.  When I switch between these directories, I have to browse for it.
 It would be great if the startup screen can remember the last N
 directories by using a drop down list.
