[GRASS-user] cog float32 export smaller scale missing tiles

2021-02-22 Thread Martin Landa
Dear all,

I am facing to a strange problem when exporting floating-point raster
data into COG format using GDAL 3.2.1 and GRASS 7.8.5.

Attempt to export raster data by `r.out.gdal format=COG` including
color table fails from obvious reasons:

ERROR 1: pm_filled_map.tif: Unable to export color table to GeoTIFF
file. Color tables can only be written to 1 band or 2 bands Byte or
UInt16 GeoTIFF files.

GDAL says:

Band 1 Block=512x512 Type=Float32, ColorInterp=Palette
Metadata:
COLOR_TABLE_RULES_COUNT=3
...

QGIS loads data with invalid symbology (which can be easily "fixed" by
"Classify" button in the "Symbology" tab).

So far understandable. Data exported with `-c` and `-m` flags leads to
a grayscale color interpretation.

Band 1 Block=512x512 Type=Float32, ColorInterp=Gray

BUT after loading a COG file into QGIS no data is displayed! But if I
zoom in, the data is magically shown! Originally I thought that it's
caused by a broken symbology. But it seems that COG file does not have
tiles for smaller scales (identify tool reports no-data for whole AOI
on smaller scales). If I create a regular GeoTIFF file the problem
with zooming disappears.

Another strange thing is that COG file created without `-c` and `-m`
flags do not have problems with zoom levels.

Any idea what could be wrong?

Thanks in advance! Martin

[GRASS-user] Statement Martin Landa

2021-01-16 Thread Martin Landa
Dear GRASS community,

first of all I would like to thank Vero for nominating me for the next PSC term!

My GRASS story started around 2002 when I was studying at the
university. Later in the year 2005 when I started studying for my PhD
I used GRASS in my GIS and remote sensing lessons. It was fun, I
taught students how to zoom and pan in a map window by GRASS command
line tools like d.pan and d.zoom. It was an adventure:-)

In 2007 and 2008 I had a chance to work together with Markus Neteler
in Fondazione Bruno Kessler (thanks Markus for introducing me to the
GRASS community, it was a great time in Trento!). I started developing
a new generation of GRASS GUI which is called wxGUI. I became a core
wxGUI developer for several years. When I returned to my university in
Prague I continued in my GRASS mission. Plenty of students of mine
contributed to GRASS development under my supervision. Let me name
some of them - Anna Petrasova, Vaclav Petras, Stepan Turek, Matej
Krejci, Tereza Fiedlerova, Ondrej Pesek, Linda Kladivova and others. I
hope it was fun for them, at least the same as for me.

I also helped to migrate GRASS source code from CVS to Subversion in
2008 and recently to Git (GitHub). I became a core GRASS depeloper, I
contributed eg. to the vector library by adding support for PostGIS
Topology. I am also maintaining UbuntuGIS PPA and WinGRASS packages. I
was also several times involved in Google Summer of Code, I started as
a student (oh, it's so long time ago:-) and later became a mentor or
co-mentor.

It was always fun to meet my GRASS friends on code/community sprints,
oh, so nice social events! Such nice memories make me happier in these
days of social distance.

Unfortunately last year I didn't have so much time for contributing to
GRASS. It doesn't mean that I forgot about you - a great GRASS
community. GRASS still stays in my heart. There are nowadays many much
more active people than me who were nominated to PSC. It's a good sign
of a stable and mature GRASS community!

next daily builds (32/64bit) should be built against GDAL3/PROJ6.

We are close 7.8.RC2, BTW.

[GRASS-user] WinGRASS build up (WIP)

2019-11-01 Thread Martin Landa
Dear all,

after several months of having WinGRASS builds down I have finally
good news. I am slowly restoring daily builds (including addons). I
will keep you informed.

You can test WinGRASS builds of version 7.8.0 (first Python3-ready
GRASS version!) from OSGeo4W network and standalone installer [1].
Addons for version 7.8.0 will be restored soon.

BIG THANKS especially to Juergen for PR [2] and Helli for testing it!!!

I was able to compile GRASS 7.6.1 except of ctypes. So all addons

What I could do for you workshop: fix few broken addons manually (add

in the next step Trac tickets will be migrated to github issue system
(in next days/weeks). This is a reason why issues are disabled at this
time in github.

IMPORTANT - till the date when issues migration will be announced:

* still use trac ticket system to report new issues/edit existing issues
* don't use shortcuts (#) in commit messages(!!!), use FULL URL
instead, eg. "bla, bla (see https://trac.osgeo.org/grass/ticket/2363).

right, it doesn't make sense probably from hydrologic point of view.
Let me explain reasoning. My colleagues are working on developing
distributed event-based model for surface and subsurface runoff and
erosion. We are working on experimental version which enables
computation parallelization. In initial phase AOI is split into tiles.
Instead of regular grid of tiles a basin-based tiles are used. This is
reason why basins (defining tiles) should be of similar area size.

$ dpkg -L libgdal-dev | grep ogr_api
/usr/include/gdal/ogr_api.h

$ g.extension v.delaunay3d --v
...
c++ -Wdate-time -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -g -O2

-DRELDIR=\"/tmp/grass7-martin-628/tmpHLuA32/v.delaunay3d\" -o

so apparently `-I/usr/include/gdal` is missing. Should be fixed in
r74306. Try to run g.extension command again.

done in r74283 (trunk), will be included in 7.8 release. I also find
strange that `dmax` option has defined default value (100 of map

thanks, I overlooked `v.to.db`. Anyway I would still need to hack

it's still make sense to me to implement this functionality in

[GRASS-user] v.to.points: extract start/end nodes

2019-03-15 Thread Martin Landa
Hi,

I need to extract start or end nodes of lines into two separated
output maps. Unfortunately `v.to.points` doesn't seems to support it
(only `nodes` or `vertices` can be chosen). I am thinking to add such
functionality to `v.to.points`. But before that, it can be that I am
overlooking another tool which I am looking for?

in r73826 the settings was changed to show comp. region extent in red
color only regardless display and computation extent position. If no
objection I will do backport to g76 release branch in next days.
Question is whether comp. region extent should be displayed by

unfortunately there was no feedback. Any opinion (since it affects

yes, this issue needs to be solved. I darkly remember that
t.rast.mapcalc was failing with point in time data. Period data is
just an ugly workaround. It needs more investigation. But for sure
i.sentinel.import should do timestamp as point in time data.

[GRASS-user] flow accumulation (GRASS and Esri ArcGIS)

2018-05-02 Thread Martin Landa
Hi,

one of my colleague is dealing with flow accumulation calculation in
GRASS, and comparing results with Esri ArcGIS (builtin Flow
Accumulation [1]). Tool in ArcGIS to me knowledge uses D8, so we run
r.watershed with -s flag and also -a flag to avoid negative values.
Resultant values are very different.

* Esri ArcGIS (range: 0 - 20741)
* r.watershed -s (range: -34068 - 5697)
* r.watershed -sa (1 - 34068)

Do you have idea why results are so different? Thanks for any pointers
in advance! Martin

by "dataset" do you mean location or input data (LAZ/LAS)? Anyway
error says, that input data (LAS/LAZ) lacks SRS info. If you are sure
that your GRASS location has been set up correctly (check by `g.proj

I replaced user, password by settings option in r72279 including
interactive prompt. @Stefan: this file can contain also custom API
URL. Testing very welcome.

It seems to me that r.modis does not really support .netrc. I just
found in source code relevant parts:

https://trac.osgeo.org/grass/browser/grass-addons/grass7/raster/r.modis/r.modis.download/r.modis.download.py#L175
-> check if folder option is given

https://trac.osgeo.org/grass/browser/grass-addons/grass7/raster/r.modis/r.modis.download/r.modis.download.py#L183
-> stdin

https://trac.osgeo.org/grass/browser/grass-addons/grass7/raster/r.modis/r.modis.download/r.modis.download.py#L198
-> read settings from file

But nothing really related to reading .netrc file (when settings is
not given). @Luca, or am I wrong?

Thanks, Ma

[GRASS-user] GRASS GIS course focused on imagery data and temporal analysis

2018-02-24 Thread Martin Landa
Dear all,

let me inform you about a new GRASS GIS course focused on working with
imagery data (Modis and Sentinel 2) covering introduction into GRASS
GIS, graphical modeling, Python scripting, and GRASS Temporal
Framework. A new GRASS addons for downloading and importing Sentinel 2
products are also introduced in this course. Also advanced topics like
scripts parallelization, or WPS process creation are also explained.

http://training.gismentors.eu/grass-gis-workshop-jena-2018/

Kudos to all GRASS, pyMODIS, sentinelsat, GDAL, PyWPS and QGIS
developers and users. My special thank to Jena university for making
this course happen, GISMentors training group and CTU GeoForAll Lab
for support.

Materials are licensed under Creative Commons and available on GitHub [1].

Best regards, Martin

probably. The module could print a warning instead of silent ignoring options.

It seems like your input strds are broken. Try to check all maps
registered in input b4 and b8 datasets (by t.rast.list).
t.rast.mapcalc tries to read non-existing raster map

in your case.

such error has been reported yesterday by another windows user. There
is something broken in wingrass74 binaries. I will take a look ASAP
(now busy unfortunately). @Helmut, do you have any idea what could be
wrong? I have small tip: I have removed gdal20dll dependency before
creating binaries for G74. Could someone try to reproduce this error
and then install in osgeo4w framework gdal20dll package, does it help?
