I couldn't find the PDF on my computer... but I had better luck finding the original in Google -- it was from a Linux Gazette article. The article includes notes that make the PDF more understandable (the link to the PDF is at the bottom of the article).

I'd welcome views and contributions about the following. It concerns making a booklet out of a PS document. Which is called imposition. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Imposition You can easily do this by manipulating the PostScript file. The Perl script below suffices. [8 snip 8]

Now here's the point. Because of the thickness of the paper, the middle pages (toward the bottom of the above pile) are puched outwards. To tidy this up, you can take a guillotine and slice of the protruding bits (of all except the first). However, this then leaves the print closer to the
