  [Impact]
  The UEFI 2.6 spec added support for ARM processor errors and errors
  that have unrecognized CPER section types. rasdaemon needs to support ARM
kernel trace events. To enable arm events we need to configure rasdaemon
package with --enable-arm

  [Test]
  debian/rules needs --enable-arm to enable arm events. I have a test build of
the rasdaemon package in ppa:centriq-team/lp1741978-rasdaemon. I tested this on
an a QDF2400 system. Here are the results for bionic, artful and xenial.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  [Test Case]

  With the hwe-z kernel:

  ubuntu@grotian:~$ sudo modprobe libceph
  modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'libceph': Exec format error
  ubuntu@grotian:~$ dmesg
  [66988.470307] module libceph: unsupported RELA relocation: 275

  [Regression Risk]
  The scope of the fix is restricted to aarch64, so regressions should only
impact the arm64 port of Ubuntu. Regressions could impact when literal loads
are used - which may have performance impacts or possibly cause software to
fail to build/run where it previously did. This is somewhat mitigated by the
fact that this has been fixed in artful gcc-5/gcc-6 and used on our buildds for
some time. Only "somewhat", because gcc-7 is now the default.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1770245] [NEW] getlogin will fail to open /proc/self/loginuid

2018-05-09 Thread Thadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo
Public bug reported:

python os.getlogin() uses glibc getlogin(), which reads
/proc/self/loginuid.

That file depends on CONFIG_AUDITSYSCALL. It has been there since early
Linux 2.6. All our kernels should have it enabled.

Cascardo.

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Current users of bcache devices may encounter unreliable device
     numbering as the Linux kernel does not guarantee that bcache
     minor numbers are assigned to the same devices at each boot.
     Users who may have used /dev/bcacheN in paths to a specific
     device could possible be pointing to a different dataset
     altogether. bcache udev rules do provide some mechanism to
     generate persistent symlinks in /dev/bcache/by-uuid or
     /dev/bcache/by-label which is based on superblock data on
     the underlying device. However, the Linux kernel does not
     always generate an kernel uevent to trigger the udev rules
     to create the symlink.

   * The fix adds a udev program which will read bcache superblock
     of slave devices and extract the UUID and LABEL, exporting them
     to udev for use in the bcache rule files.

   * This is affected in upstream bcache-tools, the owning package
     of the udev rules. This affects all releases of bcache-tools
     as the rules rely upon the kernel to trigger these events,
     though that is not a requirement to resolve the lack of
     persistent links.

  [Test Case]

   * Launch and Ubuntu Cloud Image with 3 unused disks
     - apt install bcache-tools tree
     - make-bcache -C /dev/vdb
     - make-bcache -B /dev/vdc
     - make-bcache -B /dev/vdd
     - echo "vdc" > /sys/class/block/bcache0/bcache/label
     - echo "vdd" > /sys/class/block/bcache1/bcache/label
     - reboot

     - Run this test:

  #!/bin/bash
  FAIL=0
  [ ! -d /dev/bcache ] && {
  echo "FAIL: /dev/bcache is not a directory";
  exit 1
  }
  for label in /dev/bcache/by-label/*; do
  LABEL_TARGET="$(ls -1 /sys/class/block/`basename $label`/holders/)"
  DEVNAME=`readlink -f $label`;
  KNAME="${DEVNAME#*/dev/}"
  if [ "$LABEL_TARGET" != "$KNAME" ]; then
  echo "FAIL: label points to $LABEL_TARGET but symlink points to
$DEVNAME";
  FAIL=1
  fi;
  done
  if [ "$FAIL" == "0" ]; then
  echo "PASS";
  exit 0
  fi
  exit 1

  [Regression Potential]

   * As bcache minor numbers and these symlinks have been unreliable in
     the past there may be code that makes assumptions about
     /dev/bcache* expanded only to the block devices, versus
     /dev/bcache which is a directory.

  [Original Description]

  Bcache device names like /dev/bcache0 are unstable. Bcache does not
  use any predictable ordering when assembling bcache devices, so on
  systems with multiple bcache devices, a symlink to /dev/bcache0 may
  end up pointing do a different device.

  the bcache dname symlink should point to the /dev/bcache/by-
  uuid/ which matches the backing device UUID that's set at
  creation time.

  I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 x64 and the installed version of gnome-software
  is 3.20.1

* I install a desktop application from a .deb package. I tried several
methods (apt install, dpkg -i, xdg-open then click on install button).
* After the installation, I control that the application is visible from
the system:
  * The application appears correctly in the application list in Unity Dash
  * The application appears in the "Open With" menu list in Nautilus
(because of registered mime types)
  * The package name of the application can be used as an argument of apt
commands (apt show, apt remove...) and dpkg (dpkg -l, dpkg -L...)
* I start gnome-software.
* I click on the "installed" tab to get the list of installed applications.

  expected result: the freshly installed application is in the list
  actual result: the freshly installed application is not in the list.

  If I reboot my computer and start gnome-software, the installed
  application appears in the list.

  It looks like there is some kind of cache that is not refreshed at the
  right moment.

Bug description:
  Postgresql stable update

  Note: this is an unusual schedule, but this is about a fix for a (not
  yet published) security fix. But the disclosure didn't align with the
  common releases.

  Note: this time in the initial release there were build errors (on
  windows), so this is already based on the rerolled upstream tarballs

  Current versions in supported releases:
   postgresql-9.3 | 9.3.21-0ubuntu0.14.04 trusty
   postgresql-9.5 | 9.5.11-0ubuntu0.16.04 xenial
   postgresql-9.6 | 9.6.7-0ubuntu0.17.10  artful
   postgresql-10  | 10.2-1bionic

  Special cases:
  - Bionic will be synced from Debian which usually releases fast.
So no Bionic upload.
  - This is again a security update, so while we want to bundle postrges-common
fixes for some dep8 tests, this is not the "normal" SRU we will do so

  Last related stable updates: 9.3.22, 9.5.12, 9.6.8, 10.3

  So the todo is to pick:
  MRE: Trusty 9.3.22 from
https://borka.postgresql.org/staging/70f3461f2a455731e6f3d11e313840be0b48cf00/postgresql-9.3.22.tar.gz
  MRE: Xenial 9.5.12 from
https://borka.postgresql.org/staging/70f3461f2a455731e6f3d11e313840be0b48cf00/postgresql-9.5.12.tar.gz

  Sync: Artful 9.6.8 from
https://borka.postgresql.org/staging/70f3461f2a455731e6f3d11e313840be0b48cf00/postgresql-9.6.8.tar.gz

  Standing MRE - Consider last updates as template:
  - pad.lv/1637236
  - pad.lv/1664478
  - pad.lv/1690730
  - pad.lv/1713979
  - pad.lv/1730661
  - pad.lv/1747676

  As usual we test and prep from the PPA and then add the NEWS/Upgrade
  Info link once available for the final upload (Annoucnment is Thursday
  1st of March).
