Bob,
What do you do to fix the problem then? Clean the switch
somehow or simply treplace it?

Hi all,
Updated the site, particulary the events page. This is one of the first

Does anyone know of anybody parting out a wrecked GTS? I'm looking
for a complete set of passenger foot pegs.
I'm considering mounting a set onto the Omega frame and use them as
highway pegs for LDRing. Having another place to move your legs to
reduce leg fatigue is nice. It looks like

I have some schematic at home for the measurement of the bracket to put
footpegs under the front swingarm. The problem with stock (Probably any

I use a round aftermarket footpeg that will slide backward. They way the

The BMW should have the edge in 1/4 mile and top speed although it is close.
The GTS and BMW weigh almost the same but the BMW has about a 20 rwhp
advantage. I have seen published figures as low as 11.3 for the 1/4 for the
K12. IN MOTO (an Italian magazine) had figures of 11.4 (400 meters) and

The 120/70 or 120/60 are much better profiles for the GTS1000. Keep the
pressures at 38psi front 40 psi rear and the handling is much better than
the OEM 130/60.

A few years ago, I had the pleasure of riding the GTS and the K12 RS back
to back in the twisties, two-up. It was right after the BMW intro of the
bike. I posted a lengthy comparo to the list, if anyone wants to go
searching the archives...
K12 is a nice bike, by the way.

The bike's main fuse block is located under the rear tail cowling
behind the seat.
When you remove the seat, you'll see a rectangular box with a
rubber cover over it. I'm sure you'll discover your blown fuse there.\
Although from what you're describing, the problem sounds more
severe than a

Phil, the archives only go back to last October. The old archives are no
longer accessible (as far as I know).
It appears my original hunch and Bob's were correct.
I sprayed some WD-40 onto the little plastic plunger coming out of
the clutch switch that's actuated by the clutch lever itself, worked it
back and forth several times and even disconnected the switch
harness and threw in some dielectric

Hi all,
I rode them both, the K1200RS I would say is lighter, much smoother
delivery has a top speed edge due to its higher HP output but torque is a
toss up. I'd take the GTS when it comes to handling and comfortand
prise.
Roberto at 130mph you had about 20mph more to go, you blinked that's why
Be careful of the type of spray the you use. I won't use WD 40 on any
electrical switches. The main reason is it is an oil. This makes grit and
stuff stick to it. If it's a moving part on the switch these particles will
jam and
wear them out. WD 40 is also a solvent and you just don't

I was looking at Yamaha's brochure for 1999, the GTS is cheaper than the R-1

If those are Swiss franc that would be about 12,000 US $ !

Alan;
I have ridden a friends K1200rs back to back with my GTS on a long high
speed trip. Its speed is deceptive because it doesnt rev as high as the GTS
but in my opinion it is quicker than the GTS and handles much lighter than it
looks. Like the GTS its handeling lightens up a lot

How accurate is the fuel light? How much fuel is left once it comes on

I find it really hard to 'trust' this - I much prefer the proper switch to
reserve idea!

Robin, I think the shop manual states that when the light comes on you
have about one gallon left. This seems to be correct as every time I
have stopped and filled up as soon as my fuel light came on I have
gotten about 4.0 gallons in the tank. I think the GTS holds 5.2 gallons
when it is full.
My fuel light usually comes on with about 1.5 gallons still in the
tank.
