Has anyone had any experience with this stuff good or bad ? It sounds

Due to the fine weather over here (the Netherlands) the catalyser part of my
exhaust system is falling to pieces.
A new one will cost me about $1200,- overhere , so my question is dus it

Just had a call from AJ at Yamaha USA. He told me that my motorcycle is
consuming oil because the valve guides are worn.
The bad new is that he says that is "normal" wear after 50,000 miles, and
won't be covered under warranty !!!
Is this normal ?
Did this happen to any of you guys ?

I've used Golden Specto in my 93 since it was new. It now has 60K on it and doesn't
use a drop of oil !
Maybe there is something to that synthetic oil argument !

I hope that some one might have an idea about this problem I am having with
my oldest GTS. we noticed that the radiator was losing water out of the
expansion drain hose of the water reservoir. It happened not just when hot
out and stuck in traffic. the fans were coming on. we lost not only the

I'm wrong, but if you valve guides or seals are worn, your oil consumption
will occur during engine braking or deceleration. You will see blue smoke
abundantly flowing from the exhaust during this time. If you're burning
I'll pick on your observation, Roberto. All else
being equal, rider mass will NOT affect stopping
distance. The more the mass to stop, the more the
downforce this mass has and thus increases traction
available to stop. This continues until you overpower
the brakes or blow-up the tires.

Mike,
This sounds like a classic case of a blown head gasket. Gasses from the
combustion chamber enter the water
He'll also have pretty little rainbows in whatever he drains his oil into.

Valve guide and stem seal wear also tends to give you the tell tale puff
of smoke when you start it after sitting awhile.

it has happened on GTS and in Europe they say the use that we see at 20,000
miles is normal. all oil use is normal according to every Yamaha shop I have
talked to in about 6 countries. and the wearing of the rings, valve guide or
whatever is normal to these guys.

I had the shop outside Paris remove the insides. if the outside of yours is
falling apart then have some one cut it and remove the innards of the cat
but leave the walls. then solder to back together and solder fill the holes
in it.

It might be time to replace the radiator cap.
Similar problems on my GTS were instantly solved that way.

So according to them, we have to open the engine every 20,000 miles
Talk about reliability. For the first time I am considering selling my GTS,
one thing is for sure, it's my last Yamaha.

I do not think the GTS needs the catalyser to run. The fuel injection
should compensate for the reduced backpressure if you take it off. But it
may not be legal to run without it. (it wouldn't be for me although I could
get away with it)
The catalyser should be stainless steel, at
KEvin
True except the catalyst will clean up most of it so you won't see it untill
it gets really gross.

Is the water pump working? IF not you just have a thermal syphon system,
which will not work very well. The antifreeze in the engine will overheat,
even though the stuff in the radiator is OK. Once you start boiling the
coolant in the engine the steam will force antifreeze out of the
