Re: [guadec-list] GUADEC 2007 - POS

2007-03-23 Thread Juanjo Marin
Michael:

I don't want to start a flame about FS vs OSS, but I think that FS is
more appropiated than OSS because GNOME is part of GNU project [1]

Another thing is that I'm not sure if GUADEC is GNOME User and Developer
European Conference anymore Anyone can enlight this issue ?

TIA,

OK, I think once the text is cleaned up at the bottom it will be done.

I really like number 8 too, as it has some great text that will be
instantly understandable to any who's used Linux before and doesn't
already know about the GNOME project.

So, I propose we choose these two as the official posters, and
people can use their discretion about which one to use.

Could anyone help out in doing the finishing off and stuff necessary
to make them ready for print?

I don't think any of the designs really are even nearly ready.
They're good, but none (yet) are the high quality people expect from GNOME.

Please don't be discouraged Dave, you're doing great work in actually
getting something done ! - I just think they need a bit more polish to
be at consideration level for officialness.

Dulmandakh,

O'Reilly (that distributes Non Starch books) is one of our media
partners, so maybe they sell some of their books on the GUADEC. Anybody
knows more about O'Reilly participation on the GUADEC ?

cheers,

 Hi all.

I'm from Mongolia and will participate in GUADEC2006. I wanted to ask
you to buy for me The Debian System book and bring it to GUADEC. On
http://www.bookpool.com it costs $28.50. But it can be second hand and
cheaper. I'm asking that because I can't afford for Amazone and
shipping price to Mongolia. I'll refund or give money back at GUADEC.
 It would be very appreciate.

Please contact me befora buying the book becouse maybe someone already
bought it for me at that time.

Hi Sri,

I re-send part of an old message because the points I think should be
corrected stay in the text.

the Open Source project of autonomous region
 Extremadura gnuLinEx.org (gnulinex.org)

I think that gnuLinEx folks prefer to use Free
Software instead of Open Source (see
http://www.linex.org/linex2/linex/ingles/index_ing.html to know because
I said that -do you see open source any where?- ).

Maybe we can indicate that Extremadura is in Spain (what do you think?)

I suggest:

the Free Software project from the Extremadura
Regional Government [Spain] (gnuLinEX.org)

Note: the mixeture of Capital Letter Lower Case in gnuLinEX is not a
bug, it's a feature :-) (see http://gnulinex.net/ to check it out)

 Press Release
 Final Draft

Be part of GNOME – The GUADEC 2006 in Catalonia, Spain

500 Developers excepted at GNOME Conference in Vilanova

 xx of June 2006

The 7th GUADEC will be held from 24th to 30th of June in Vilanova,
Catalonia/Spain. In co-operation with the Telcommunications and Information
Society office of the Catalan government the week will be one of the leading
developers conferences around Free and Open Source software this year.

The official program will be split into three phases: The Approach Weekend
 (24th 25th), GUADEC Core (26th to 28th) and After Hours (29th and 30th). In
addition, the Core days will have three simultaneous tracks, called Showcase,
 Topaz (GNOME 3.0) and Tangle.

GUADEC – One week of future

Opening keynote will be presented by Jeff Waugh. The international leading
developer works on Ubuntu business and community development for Canonical.

Waugh is an active member of the Free Software community, holding positions
such as Chairman of the Annodex Foundation (2006), Director of the GNOME
Foundation Board (2003-2004, 2006), GNOME Release Manager (2001-2005),
committee member (2000-2001) and president (2002-2003) of the Sydney Linux
Users' Group, and member of the linux.conf.au 2001 organising team. In 2005,
he won the Google/O'Reilly Open Source award for Best Evangelist. Waugh is a
 card-carrying member of Linux Australia.

Following keynotes at GUADEC 2006 concering about „Creating Passionate
Users“, „Freedom: Reality and Illusion“, „GNOME – How much faster?“, „Big
GNOME Deployments: the GnuLinEx and Guadalinex Use Cases“ and „ Free Software
 at Sun Microsystems“.

The core slots are reporting about GNOME with Bluetooth and using Voice over
IP with Ekiga (mobile solutions), organizing digital pictures with F-Spot and
searching documents with Beagle (desktop solutions), the new GTK+ printing
API, GTK+ 2.0 and databases with GLOME (backend solutions). The complete
agenda can be found under guadec.org/GUADEC2006/schedule/Core.

It's GLOM not GLOME
GUADEC – The whole GNOME family

GNOME Conference will be the get together of developers around GNOME planet.
Guys from more than 30 projects and teams will be in Vilanova, for example
Beagle, Cairo, Epiphany, Evince, Evolution, Eye of GNOME, F-Spot, Gaim,
Gazpacho, GEdit, Gigax, Gimp, GLib, GLOME, GNOME Art, Gnome Dashboard, DBus
Diva, GNOME-DB, GNOME Nettool, GNOME Panel, GNOME Translation Project, GNOME
VFS, Gossip, GStreamer, GTK+ and PyGTK, GTuring, GUADLAC, Java-GNOME, Maemo
platform and Nokia, Novell Linux Desktop, Mono network, Pango, Telepathy and
 Ubuntu.

GUADEC – From all over the world

European delegations for GUADEC are applied from Check Republic, Denmark,
Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Letonia, Norway, Poland, Spain
and Turkey. African developers will be arriving from Nigeria and South
Africa. Americans are coming from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Columbia, Mexico and
the U. S. Also representatives are registered from Australia and New Zealand,
 China, India and Mongolia.

Up to 500 people will be guest at the Political University of Catalonia (UPC)
it's Polytechical not Political. Anyway, I think we should write at the
Campus Mediterrània of the Polytechical University of Catalonia (UPC)
in Vilanova, 45 km south of Barcelona. Most of them are living together in
bungalows at Vilanova Park (live.gnome.org/GUADEC2006/GNOMEVillage). About 50
of them will be sponsored participants of GUADEC Committee and The GNOME
 Foundation.

 GUADEC – The GNOME Conference

GUADEC is a unique forum that highlighs the capabilities and direction of
GNOME – the user environment for desktop computers, networked servers and
portable Internet devices. GUADEC features meaningful discussions of the
future direction of Free Software and Open Source development in general.

Sponsored by leading companies of the Free Software world, the GNOME
Conference is an important platform for interchange of ideas and
communication between communities and companies supporting the GNOME desktop
and applications. Started in 2000 in Paris, today GUADEC is one of the most
interesting places for developers around the world to work together.

 GUADEC – The GNOME Sponsors

Cornerstone sponsor Nokia (opensource.nokia.com) is working hard on GNOME
developments through the Maemo platform implemented in the Nokia 770 Internet
Tablet. Gold sponsor OSDL (osdl.org) is a non-profit organization that
provides state-of-the-art computing and testing facilities available to
 developers around the world.

Gold sponsor Sun Microsystems (sun.com/software/opensource/) is a

[guadec-list] Registro

2006-06-14 Thread Juanjo Marin
Hola,
