I don't want to start a flame about FS vs OSS, but I think that FS is
more appropiated than OSS because GNOME is part of GNU project [1]

Another thing is that I'm not sure if GUADEC is GNOME User and Developer
European Conference anymore Anyone can enlight this issue ?

TIA,

- OpenSource should be Open Source.

- The choices of GNOME is are rather odd. Accessibility is nice but
it's hardly our number one thing. Personally, I'd just leave those 3
bits out.

- I think it would be worthwhile to put a small map of the UK on there,
with a big dot for Birmingham. Most people will have no idea where it
is.

2007-03-17 Thread Behnam ZWNJ Esfahbod
Hi Dave,

Last year Quim suggested to use The GNOME Conference as the title,
and 2006 - Vilanova... as a sub-title. In fact, he had the great
idea to make a new brand, The GNOME Conference, and convinced us to
use it. You may have seen my design with Vilanova 2006 on the Linux
Magazine [2], that was before we decide about the title. I can send
you the logs of the irc channel if you like.

BTW I suggest to use something like this:

--
  G U A
  D E C
The GNOME Conference
   2007 - Birmingham
--

And about the font, we had same situation. We planed a graphic irc
meeting, and decided about the font and colors. Using special font
and colors was another part of the branding. I was thinking about
having new colors for each year (as it used to be), but Quim just told
to let next-year organizers decide about it. But we all agreed to use
MgOpen Cosmetica [1] typeface for the new title. So I think a lot of
people expect to see The GNOME Conference in Cosmetica typeface, as
it's on the header of the website already. Maybe it's possible to use
the new typeface only for Birmingham 2007 text, when it's not beside
the main title, The GNOME Conf

The typeface of BIRMINGHAM 2007 is really nice, and I like it, but it
breaks the thread of making of The GNOME Conference.

I'm OK with using new colors for this year, personally. You can find
my customized colors for Catalonia/Spain in the gallery of guadec.org.

Oh, I forgot to mention that we used same typeface [1] for the
www.guadec.org too.

Well, that's it. So please just don't use multiple titles, like
GUADEC 2007, 8th Edition, etc.

And just another hint about using the GUADEC logo. Please put a white
background and border for the logo itself, and the titles under it.
The way you used it on GUADEC9.pdf makes it look like an incomplete
job.

Well, the designs are interesting and creative. I like them.

Cheers,
-Behnam

Currently the home says GUADEC (pronounced GWAH-DEC) is an acronym
for the GNOME Users' And Developers' European Conference.

In fact last year we decided to get rid of the acronym, in the best
GNOME style. Now GUADEC means The GNOME Conference.

This is the background of that slogan. :)

Hi Dave!
Great to see someone picking up the torch on this one!
I'm the dude who did a lot of the printed material at last years
conference, so I hope I can provide some useful feedback.
I really like the text you've written and I would be more than happy to
put this up at my local university in hope that I can lure some lurking
gnomers around here to come to the event.

* regarding the Meet, Plan, Party letters:
shadows are often very hard to print at a printer and have it look good,
so I would advice to avoid that.

* The text looks a bit dragged out vertically, and I would also suggest
you try to use serif letters instead, as they are easier to read on paper.

* The text placed upon the Guadec logo currently looks like they are
part of the logo and is a bit hard to read. Try to put it below the logo
without clipping it.

* The city in the background can also be tricky to print and also makes
the text a bit harder to read.

I also think Behnam has some suggestions on what font we could use for
these, as I can't remember what we used last year (or was supposed to
anyway, as I mixed some stuff up ;)

Keep up the great work!
