Re: [h-cost] Eterna Silk (was Re: BUtterick 18th C)

2005-11-18 Thread Sue Clemenger
Not getting any sympathy from me! ;o) I live in an entire state that's not
big enough (population wise) for most nice companies, or restaurants. I
don't know that we've got a Pottery Barn anywhere in Montana

 WOW!

Of course, the closest dealer is 2+ hours from me. Why this city isn't
considered big enough for nice companies, I don't know. We are just
getting
a Pottery Barn, for goodness sake.

Feeling grumpy about having to always buy things online if I want nice
 stuff to play with.

Can someone point me in the way of needlework history of the development
of crochet? Warren and Pullan indicate that it was used in ancient times by
shepherds as a means of converting sheared wool into garments. Other

laces and such. Is there any direct documented use of this form of lace
making in the 18th C? In any case, it seems to relate to more primitive and
 coarse lace work.
 Comments?

I'm afraid those sources aren't the best. Where they got their information

Re: [h-cost] Muppet Fur

2005-11-18 Thread Katie Lewis
When I saw the subject line, I immediately thought of the dyed sheepskins that
IKEA is currently selling. Most of them are colors found in nature (if not on
sheep), except for the red ones. By some strange and random chance, the red
ones are precisely the color of Elmo. They also have a frigteningly similar
appearance.
