Seems like a bunch of the lists I'm on have a thread going about current
projects. So thanks to all of you who answered my plea for some sort of
idea of what to charge for contract work. Well, I'm now under contract
to do a bunch of 20th century sewing, 1919, 1943, and early 1950's.

A teacher at my kids' school had ALL her 7-8 graders doing a fabric project
for a local shelter- either knitting, crocheting or quilting. And all the
kids got into it. It was great seeing those tall, lanky 8th grade boys with
their knitting. :-)

Silk organza would be the classic fabric to use if you want the top fabric to
have more body, (due to it's static retention, it sticks to the outer fabric
of its own accord). Don't think it works with the synthetic stuff.
A quilted peticoat would work well to prevent boning coming through (my
My Nana could knit and crochet (and was the best dressmaker *and* tailor I've
ever seen, as well as being an incredible cook and baker - aren't some people
just annoyingly talented??!!)
My mother, although useless at sew-y things (she broke sewing machines) could

Hi Becky.
The problem was not asking the questions. The problem was that you did not

I did on the first submission but it came back So I cut it shorter. Like I
said, this is my first assignment and it was a broad issue with little
specifics except a question that cam be answered yes/no. So I'm learning how
to ask a question as well as how to gather data. It's a learning
??? I don't understand the problem here. I can knit and crochet (and quilt
and embroider), and I could both knit and crochet when I was a child. My
grandmother taught me -- my mother taught me to hook rugs and needlepoint
and cross stitch. This was long after polio, but I was a crafty kid (I also
A friend has been trying to teach her daughter to knit (she's
8), and I may suggest crochet first for her. It's a lot more instant
gratification, useful for those with a small attention span.
grins..yup, that's why I like it so much!

I can do okay knitting, not very good at all with crocheting, I can do real
good beadwork. My sister is excellent in knitting and crocheting but can't
do beadwork. She is an excellent sewer but has problems with being creative
with designs. I am
Dear Sylvia,
I have been working on an on-line portfolio, organised by era, with a

The pictures are clickable and take you to a more detailed page for
each period; eventually I hope to have individual pages for each
outfit, but so far
