Sorry if this is off-topic, but I'm hunting a portrait online that I first
found at the Tate -
About 1548s, English, Unknown Man by an unknown artist (helpful, huh?) a
youngish man in a fabulous red Tudor outfit open at the front to show a
heavily blackworked shirt ... any help in finding him
David Brown's current listing if for $90 plus shipping (usually $5.00).
You
need this book. Grab it before it goes out of print and availability
completely. It isn't going to get any cheaper to buy ...
Actually, all these great imported books are seeing price increases whenever

You mean this one?

But in color?
I know I've seen it in color, I just don't remember
where. Give me until tomorrow, or hopefully someone
else has it, or knows where a better
I would guess not, since the top of womens costume seems to be a shirt with a
1/4 bra thing, that pamela anderson is fond of, so that would definitely not go
well with the parents and the local vicars ;-)

Only if you have friends to help you hide the body. :)
And a product to help you get the blood out of your clothes.
BTW, If you can't convince your director you mean business, you might want to
try Reel Blood which is easier to remove than any other blood product I've
tried.
Pig's blood
Thanks!

Perhaps you could ask Bella. This is her website
http://realmofvenus.renaissanceitaly.net/
At the bottom of the page there is a email button.
She has the most extensive site on Venetian costume that I know of. Oonagh's
site (Deborah Lane) comes in a good 2nd place.
Robin,
I'd recommend contacting Ann Rosalind Jones or Margaret F Rosenthal.
They have a new book coming out in the Fall on Vecellio's Costume book, here
are a few excerpts off of the Realm of Venus site.

Yes! That is exactly the right one! When I first saw him - probably 10
years ago, because he was the inspiration for the look of a blackworked
shirt I entered in a Kingdom AS - I found him in color - the black and
white of the shirt was gorgeous against the red suit.
Thanks! AT least I know

Can someone please tell me, what is hammered silk? Google isn't turning up a
definition. Is it a process? If so, what is the base weave?

Robin,
Do you want *anyone* from anywhere in the world, or someone that can
communicate in English? I have access to mitt loads of both, some of which
don't speak English and/or are working right in Venice.

Hi Zuzanna,
I just wanted to post a question about what methods you use when
drafting/scaling corsets to size.
Any way that works at the time. ;-) Generally speaking I create a
proportionately close copy of the original I am working from based on the
bust/waist/hip measurement I am aiming for,

I've bought some. It's a shiny, lightweight silk, kinda like a charmeuse,

Well, no luck on my end finding a color copy of him. I
know I've seen one, although I may just be mixing the
image with the color interpretation that is in the
Tudor Tailor book in my mind.
Good luck in your hunt.
