[h-cost] Costumer in Chicago looking for work.

2012-03-14 Thread EcoMaas
Hi Everyone,
I am a new member to the group. I am a stitcher/costumer working in the
Chicago area. Can anyone tell me how I can get my name out there as a
seamstress? I'd like to join a group of folks who would need my wicked good
sewing
skills. Thank you in advance for your help.
Patty

Just finished a 16th century Persian for a friend down here. Poor
choice of fabrics, but they were already purchased. But (my old
mantra) done is beautiful.

Need to sew something for myself soon. After printing book pages for
the annual SF Printers' Fair!

PS. It's ok to run into the sewing room, toss something marvelous on
the dummy and *then* tell us about it. It's also ok to tell what's in
your design sketchbook, on the worktable, in the quilt frame, at the
sewing machine or in the embroidery hoop.

Mine, currently, and for months, has a green silk panniered gown on
it, minus all the furbelows. I can't decide how to embellish
it--ruffles? lace? bows?

Absolutely amazing. Look at the size of stone on the gloves worn by the
Cardinal holding the tongue in pincers!!! The gloves are all quite flesh toned
and I only realised that they are all wearing them when I wondered how the
jewellery was being held in place. At first I thought it was a
Rosary/Paternoster being wound around their hands - til I went super close up.

My dummy is a brand new self made version (as the daughter bound my bust down
so it looked like Arnie on a bad day). Tonight she will be wearing a blue linen
12th C dress. I am making my first one with lacing, hopefully to wear next
weekend.

A pair of pants shirt that need minor repairs. BUT, on the floor
beside beside it is the fabric I scored at a church sale!
(A local church had a member who had a MAJOR stash and when she decided
she couldn't sew anymore, donated it to the church. It took them 2
weeks to measure it for the sale.)

So, white linen cotton for chemises; fuschia, teal black wool
cotton heavy knits (some of it Pendleton!) suitable for suits pants.
Brown linen for a tunic, or maybe mundane pants; enough white drapery
sheers yardage to veil the whole frelling Barony, /including/ the belly
dancers. Some Stretch Sew bathing suit blouse patterns for a
quarter a piece.

And, best of all, a 4yd, 60 wide light blue piece of heaviest weight
Ultrasuede for $20 BUCKS. Gloat, gloat gloat. I will Never wear that
color, but it is my best friend's favorite shade and she fondled it but
didn't buy. So I did buy it I put it in her bag, saying, here's your
Xmas present. It just revolted my soul (as a former Joann's employee)
to leave that buttery soft piece of gorgeousness behind!

So, now I'm at /least/ 8 projects further behind! But d@mn, that woman
had Taste!
